Been surfin' the net on this. I see many web sites that specialize more
on bridal dress rentals, and tuxes. With all the drive thru wedding
chapels, I can see why. Some places sells what was rentals - and its not
cheap, and is limited as in sizes and styles - so there must be some
places that rent prom gowns. I saw a very few web sites that rented
prom dresses. Some didn't have the prices posted, others were per day
rentals, I found only one was around sixty and up.
Another option based on prices is to see a tailor.
I wonder how much a tailor in LV can whip up a prom dress style from
scratch to one's measurements. Would it be cheaper than buying a
already made one? I know a few locally where I live that are
transplants from Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Korea, that
besides adjusting clothes, they made custom clothing from scratch in
their countries. They are quite good at creating any kind of clothes,
in whatever material one wants, and can whip up a prom dress within days
(one day for measurements, one day for fitting, third day to pay for it
and pick it up), based on just a photo, and it can be made in whatever
color one wanted, fitted to your body. They have been also cheaper than
the retail price, and are really good at making it its really close to
the retail one.
The basic no frills prom dress was at one time around $125 total for
material and labor, but that was about 5 years ago, and I went with a gg
that needed a formal gown. She said that if one finds the right
tailor, its worth it and depending on what one wants, the bottom line is
that its cheaper than buying it retail, and getting what you want as far
as style, than choosing pre-made styles that is what is available from a
store. Some chinese friends just goes to their tailor for certian kinds
of clothes, like the traditional cheong-sum chinese dress or the tang
style tops.
One chinese tailor replaced a body length plastic zipper on a jump suit
with a heavy duty brass one for me, and it looked like it came from the
factory. I really depends on the ability of the tailor.
