I agree here. A liberal return policy makes it better, but still. ...
A lot of our people are quite shy about shopping in real life, but the
bottom line is that the shops are in business to make money and ours is
just as green as anybody else's is.
When you enter a shop, 99.99% of the salespeople will want to see two
things happen. 1, you find something you like so you will buy it, and 2,
you will be satisfied so you will come back, buy more, and you will
recommend them to others.
If you're a bit uneasy with attentive salespeople, places like Payless
and Famous Footwear, as well as Target/WallyWorld/Kmart/Shopko will be
sure to have salespeople who ignore you. :)

That was 2001. Margeth had a similar problem in 2000, blisters from
those cute new sandals. :)
