Sahara Bathroom Incident was me....

First of all, I havent had a chance to read all the posts till just now.
I was pretty amazed reading all the way back on posts about all the
assumptions many of you made in regards to what happen to me at the
Sahara that morning. NOT ONE person was there or witnessed what happened
at 3am that morning yet posts seem to suggest I cut through a pit
station, brought the incident on myself, presumed I was talking loudly,
using the mirror for silly girl reasons and many other suggestions....I
consider myself a very honest, classy and fairly intelligent tgirl that
would never do a thing to dishonor our girls, DLV, our Porltand group,
myself or my wife. Using common sense and doing the right thing at all
times is extremely important to me. So, with that said, here is exactly
what happen that night.

I (blondie...lol) was playing 21. It was the 6th day we were at the
Sahara with no incidents at all. I simply got up to use the restroom. I
went alone. I did NOT come close to crossing through the tables or pit
area. I did not talk to anyone or say anything to anyone. I was not
confronted by anyone. When I began to enter the womens restroom, I was
confronted by two security guards. They told me not to enter the womens
bathroom. I asked where they expected me to go. They said "maam" (yeah,
even called me maam)you are not to use the womens bathroom or we will
have to remove me from the property. I said "Im sorry sir...I have been
here all week and asked if they had a unisex restroom"...He said..."no
we dont and if you put one foot in the bathroom, we check you out of the
hotel and remove you from the property"...I again said "im sorry...i
understand" and walked away.

I went back to my 21 table and told the pit boss what happened cause we
were on great terms and asked what he suggested. He knew me from
previous nights and said "Come with me Cassandra..." and walked me
around a corner and said to use the one in the back. He told me not to
worry about that he would handle any future situation that night while
he was there.

Thats what happened period...I wasnt loud, I didnt bring it on myself, I
didnt cross through any tables, I wasnt dancing in front of a mirror or
looking at myself, and I certainly wasnt socializing with anyone. Heck,
I never even made it into the bathroom. Story over. Those are the facts
and not what most of the posts suggested. I didnt do a thing wrong in
terms of my actions.

At the Friday night dinner, I brought it to Annies attention and she
informed me I should have used my room since I was staying at the hotel
for the sake of less of a chance somethng like that happening. I told
Annie I would make sure next year, I would do that. So, if I made a
mistake at all, it was maybe not reading into the DLV rules of using
your room bathroom instead of public restrooms to avoid conflict during
the DLV if you are staying at that particular hotel.

I hope this clears things up

Thanks

Cass

Cassandra,

Since I began this (little?) exchange in an effort to find out
what really happened, let me be among the first to reply.

I am so sorry that this even happened to you. It could have
easily been me who was confronted by security and I don't
know if I could have shown the grace that you did under such
circumstances. I am also sorry about the rampant speculation
that arose but am pleased to hear your first-hand account of
what happened.

So I wonder what it was that I heard. Perhaps the pit boss?
Maybe the restroom I was in was the second one that was pointed
out to you. Was one of the security guards a woman? Maybe what
I heard was the pit boss was explaining our group to her. Either
way, I'm betting (pun intended) that the male voice I heard was
him. The words I heard were positive which clearly didn't come
from a security guard.

I too have used the ladies room at Sahara without incident but
a scenario like this gives me pause. While I understand Annie's
advice, it is still upsetting that we even have to deal with
such inconveniences. Yet the establishment typically holds
the cards (there's another pun!) which puts us at a clear
disadvantage, as in a no-win situation.

I'm curious Cassandra, have you or are you planning to
communicate further with Sahara management on this issue?

Clearly it's their property and they will do what they wish
but I'm thinking the likelihood of my returning there, DLV
or otherwise, has diminished tremendously absent any sort of
acknowledgement on the part of hotel management.

Thank you again Cassandra for sharing this.

Thanks for the report.

This was more or less the way I remember it. No mention of
crossing the pit or any other attention-getting act.

>When I began to enter the womens restroom, I was confronted
>by two security guards.

This is the detail I recalled incorrectly. I thought it was
one "Bubba" and not two. :)

>I brought it to Annies attention and she informed me I should
>have used my room since I was staying at the hotel for the
>sake of less of a chance somethng like that happening.

This is one of the "best practices" which has emerged over
the years. There's no issue with comfort and there is
absolutely no question of it being allowed or appropriate.

>and if you put one foot in the bathroom, we check you out
>of the hotel and remove you from the property"

Here's another reason to be particularly careful at your home
hotel. Ejection from the property can mean an involuntary
check-out as well. :(

>He told me not to worry about that he would handle any
>future situation that night while he was there.

The pit boss can be your friend, particularly if you are
a table game player with $ignificant bet$. :) "Money talks
and nobody walks!" (LOL - Dennisons?) :) :)

Another good practice, as the pit boss suggested, is to
take the road less traveled and use an out of the way
restroom. Of course it's best to use this practice prior
to the occurrence of any incidents.

One thing I often suggest, especially if there's a large
or obvious group of DLVers present, it to get the hell
away from where the group is obvious to onlookers, walk
several hundred feet in any direction, and then seek
facilities.

>So, if I made a mistake at all, it was maybe not reading
>into the DLV rules of using your room bathroom instead
>of public restrooms to avoid conflict during the DLV if
>you are staying at that particular hotel.

There's really no rule which proscribes this. There are
some fleeting references to it in our documents, but those
are really suggestions. Officially, everybody is on his or
her own. One thing we do not purport to offer at DLV is a
"safe place to pee."

>I hope this clears things up

Yes, it did.

>From your report, since you were confronted at entry to the
restroom, they (security) were obviously keeping an eye out,
not necessarily for you in particular, but for anyone who
fit the description. My guess is that there had been some
kind of a prior complaint.

History has shown that casino security will seldom if ever
act without some kind of complaint or report. Since both
Gina and I witnessed some rather blatant restroom misuse,
and we've had some first-hand reports of poor practices
such as fraternizing with curious GGs in restrooms and such,
it may very well be the case that misuse was more widespread
this year than we were aware of, and you could very well be
yet another passive victim of somebody else's actions.

"Misuing a restroom is a good way to get SOMEBODY ELSE
in trouble!" (Where have I heard that one?) :)

Next year I will bring a scanner (radio). Sahara security is 464.8
and those are easy to listen in on.

Sara,

Remember the old thing we did in school as kids?... The teacher
whispered a story to the first kid in class... he told the
next kid... that kid told the next kid and so on through each
of the kids. At the end of the session, the original story was
so bashed, it was pathetic... thats what happened here....

>Was one of the security guards a woman?

No, both were men.... only one of them talked to me though.

>I'm curious Cassandra, have you or are you planning to

After I got home and talking to some of the Las Vegas girls,
my hour of research online (not much time looking into it),
I found that there is no clear cut law in Las Vegas compared
to Oregon. While I go out in Oregon, I carry a letter written
to me from the lawyer of the Mayor's office pertainging to
which restroom I am supposed to use and allowed to use in our
state. In Vegas, the casino's have a right to remove anyone
from their property for any reason so I didnt contact the
Sahara or push it any farther. But after this and reading
everything about the restroom issues in Vegas, I am going
to email the state. I will post their response here when I
get it.

>Thank you again Cassandra for sharing this.

Your welcome and thank you for listening

Cassandra,

I understand what you are saying in the analogy about kids saying one
thing, and so on...until something completely different comes out on the
other side. Please know that wasn't what I was looking for in asking my
question. My motivation was quite simple, to validate the positivity
that I heard.

Of course it is now clear this overall situation was far from positive.
It is what it is and I'll be curious as to what the state of Nevada has
to say.

And without a full-blown CSI, I doubt you and I will ever know exactly
where our tales intersect but I do know this, what I heard (aside from
the distinctive sound of a security radio) was nothing but positive.
When it happened in your timeline, and exactly who it was, I don't think
either of us can say for certain. My best guess is that it was in fact
the pit boss, maybe even after your incident unfolded. And who he was
speaking with we'll never know. But it seems he is the common positive
element in this whole thing.

Sara

I research some other state and federal laws it is an eye opener.

First it look like the feds left transgender language out of there
discrimination laws. It stated at the federal level you have to parallel
case laws and that is not easy. Thirteen states have some transgender
language protecting our right s to work, housing therefore the restrooms
are include in the language. Calif. back in 1990 s past the fair work
and housing for us. would you believe that Minnesota did back in the
1960 s.

By the way Nevada is not one of those states.

And it even went as far as to list the city s some of those were San
Fran 2003 is the most friendly to us. Any public facility t friendly.
Dallas, seattle, Tacoma, Chicago, New York to mention a few from memory.
You have to check out Colrado, they were the last to pass, and what a
dosey. It really sounds like if the language transgender is not on the
laws, we are committing crime. All it takes is a unhappy mother in the
restroom with here!

5 year old. (example Bahama Breeze). this is all on the web have fun
Sara. Regards Robyn
