Hostess Gallery for 2014.

Postby Katie Wilson » Sun Jun 02, 2013 12:41 pm

Hi.
After the ball was over ..
We seem to have had one or two unfortunate attendees who didn't manage to hook up with the groups. This is sad when some travel so far to get here and then miss a nice evening out with the girls. *And Boys sometimes too* .
For next year maybe we should have a page of portrait pics in My DLV of the coordinators if they are all ok with posting one! This will assist people in finding us in a crowded bar or restaurant. I am quite easily recognized but some of our ladies look really good and may not stand out as much as I do in a crowd.

A page of Single photos of the coordinators of events ( IE:-- pick a portrait photo for ID purposes **No cheating now we need one that really looks like you** *lol*) We could update this page for the specific year and post it on My DLV... No Archives necessary after the event is over ! This might help new people to DLV to get started and introduce themselves etc'. When I was new and didn't know anyone, tying names to faces I had seen en masse in the DLV yearbooks was a gargantuan task.
As long as we post something easy to recognize I think this might be a decent idea.

May I suggest that we ask everyone who coordinated an event this year to respond to this to see how many would be interested in posting their own personal photo for the good of a successful future DLV's.
Another thought would be that we could post this years 2013 hostesses and assistants if they like in order test drive their new piccy page and see what it looks like.

All we would have to do is submit a **fully clothed** . Photo. *Wink* to a section of MY DLV assigned to Hostesses and/or Event coordinators and see how it flies! If it doesn't work out and there is little interest shown then we will have lost nothing. Just a bit of our time.

The section in **My DLV** could be referenced in the pre 2014 E-Mail news letter ....IE:-- go to (xxxxxxxxx) in MY DLV to see your hostesses when the event is getting close and events have been finalized for the year..

This can very easily be included in the DLV 2013 follow-up pages.

However, in order to be meaningful, it needs to have a certain minimum level of participation, and it has to be totally voluntary. We'll need a good clean headshot, or a larger image which can be cropped to the face, and it does need to be recent and a recognizable likeness.

IIRC we had 30-some active volunteers coordinating activities this year. To make a meaningful "rogues gallery" we would need at minimum 15-20 or so.

I am all for this. You could probably use this MyDLV headshot (--->). Hopefully it still looks like me though it is about 5 years old. Pictures have to be ***FULLY CLOTHED***, does that mean burkas are required?(tongue firmly in cheek.

Don't all rush at once girls, We won't be able to handle all the mail bags! and we only have 10 months left to go for the next one! ***
We don't need 500 reasons why or why not Just a simple yes or no will do.

If we do this I suggest a current photo from this years event as some returnees will recognize an outfit or a dress which might have caught the eye and then connect it to the wearer. Just a suggestion but a portrait as Valorie suggested would be fine. > Again a simple yes or no is nice. No replies does not help at all.

Perhaps if I looked as I did at 35, I would. However, these days, vanity
dictates that I decline. Thanks for asking though.

Thanks for responding Delaney. we can only get an idea if this will work if the others follow your lead. ( So A **Simple No** is ok girls then we are not in limbo. ...but Zero replies does not tell us a whole lot.) And if we went ahead and included a photo gallery of Hostesses without anyone's permission I think we all know what the result would be.
If we all looked like we did when we were 35 years old we would not know who anyone was when we meet in person !. *lol* I suspect that I have changed just a wee bit since I was 35 but I understand completely that you would prefer not to post a photo and I thank you for your reply..

Just something worth mentioning here >>> I have talked with a friend who I had known on line for about 5 years in a chat room and she said that she had attended DLV a few times but we had never met. So I arranged to meet her at The Plaza opener a couple of years ago... Well folks, Surprise, surprise... We never got to meet as her photo for on line chatting was nothing like the lady I passed several times at the opening event at the Firefly restaurant.
There is a happy ending to this one though, We met the next year and now I know what she looks like and will recognize her again. *LOL*.
We had passed like ships in the night at 3 different DLV's and never connected the dots so to speak.

It is not really necessary that we all look wonderful ( I already know that I don't ) Just as long as we are recognizable to someone who needs to connect with the group, especially if they are a bit shy or new to going out, or just want to know who is who..

Huggers. Katie.

It also doesn't take much to confuse someone. Sometimes I will be talking to someone at DLV one day, and almost miss them the next just because they swiched our their hair from a brunette to a blonde.

Another crazy idea: if people are uncomfortable having real photos, we could probably make some new stylized portraits. Why not turn all the hostesses into cartoon super heros (or super villains)? A friendly artist can play up your more identifiable, flattering, and feminine features.

I should also note that nearly all the hostesses I have met at DLV look great and are aging gracefully.

Hostess Gallery for 2014.

I'm kind of meh on the whole idea for a hostess gallery. Not so much
because of whether or not I put a picture of myself out there but more
along the lines of not understanding why there is an issue in the first
place. Meeting a group of us? It's not like DLV caters to housewives
from south Kansas, we're really not that hard of a group to spot no
matter how much we try to blend in with the Muggles. And when one needs
to find the hostess, just ask another member or two of the tribe and
chances are better than not that the inquirer will be directed to the
right person. This has happened repeatedly at my PF Chang's event so I'm
pretty sure it works.

It seems to me that when serious issues come up in someone "not being
able to find the group", it arises out of 1) severe apprehension about
being out & about in the first place, or 2) an utter inability to follow
basic directions and/or failrue to read the thorough DLV email postings.

I'm in if we do it but really think it's not necessary. This is just my
2-cents.

Sara

I think there's some confusion here over what's intended, when, and why. There are really two things going on.

First was a suggestion to include a thumbnail headshot of the host or hostess (remember, we do have gentlemen among the Coordinator ranks) on the schedule, in particular the custom schedule and possibly the tabular version. This will probably happen next year, at least for a test to see if it is helpful. It will be strictly optional and opt-in with an image of choice. To be meaningful, that image does have to be a recognizable likeness, meaning a clear headshot of recent vintage sans any brutal photoshopping.

The second was a suggestion to include a Host(ess) Gallery with the DLV 2013 follow-up pages. I said that I would be willing to put the page together if there happened to be a minimum level of participation to make it meaningful. So far, responses have been few and far between so this will not happen unless we have several others agree to participate.

Yes, the group is usually painfully obvious to anyone who wishes to find us.

I'm not hearing that as the intent of the first suggestion. I'm simply hearing that it would be nice for someone, particularly new, to have a specific face to look for, if needed, if there were any reason to find the person in charge.

Speaking from a personal standpoint, I would find this helpful. I was totally embarrassed twice this past DLV when I failed to recognize on sight two individuals I most definitely should recognize by this time! :(

Yes, if someone wants a convenient excuse to bail, not being able to find the group is a good excuse.

We're definitely going to discuss the "low-information attendees" in ORG, but as you say above, I think a lot of this "lack of information" is a convenient excuse to give in to uneasiness and not participate. Our fall-out rate (also observed by every other TG event I've ever been associated with) is very significant. We had a registered headcount of over 200 when we closed registration, but our final show-up count was something like 159.
