Hahaha..a girl can' leave her hotel room without her makeup bag. Heavens! I'd
be the last to suggest such an insane proposition, but now it's starting to
look like we may have to carry those little flasks that you slip under your
dress a la Marilyn Monroe in Some Like It Hot! That's what I was referring to,

Luv!

Hi Veronica,

Catrina is a wonderful old gal that lives in the cemetary and comes out
once a year around Halloween to spread love and joy to all. Seriously,
it is a Mexican tradition that you can check out on the internet under
the same name. The Hispanics brought it north with them and take it
seriously. They have a Catrina Ball here every year around May 5th.
Some folks bring her out on Halloween too.

She's officially known as "La Calavera Catrina" which means Dapper or
Elegant Skull. She is a 1910-1913 zinc etching by famous Mexican
printmaker, cartoon illustrator and lithographer Jose Guadalupe Posada.

The image depicts a female skeleton dressed only in a hat befitting the
upper class outfit of a European of her time. Her chapeau originally is
related to French and European styles of the early 20th century. She is
meant to portray a satirization of those Mexican natives who Posada felt
were over embracing European traditions of the aristocracy in the
pre-revolutionary era. She in particular, has become an icon of the
Mexican Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. I'm attaching a photo of
me taken before leaving the house to participate in last year's Dia De
Los Muertos (or Day of the Dead) Celebration here in Tucson.
