Another dynamite turnout!

I know this Mercado well. There is a plaza on the same grounds where on
Friday & Saturday nights large groups of Mariachis get together and play
at different tables. Surprisingly, you'd think how can you hear one
group for the other but they manage no to interfere with the others. Or
maybe everyone is just too drunk, hollering, and having a grand old time
to take notice. Thanks for the memory...Vera

That University is one of the best and puts out a lot of fine doctors,
dentists, and optometrists. I received services at one time or another
from UofG medical personnel.

I agree. It's not easy to put together the larger events that anchor the
start and finish of the DLV itinerary.

In my opinion, Artisan is perfect from a setting standpoint. It's very
elegant (befitting of a group such as ours) and I even like that it's
not simply one big room. It's much more cozy, like going to a cocktail
party at a friend's (very large) house. That said, it's too bad that
their food prices probably turn a lot of our group off and if one wished
to fall back on drinks, those were very pricey as well. If they did in
fact raise the prices from their usual, then shame on them.

Kudos to Cynthia for putting this together. If it was our group's last
visit to Artisan, I will still remember it fondly, even if only for the
setting and everyone who attended.

Kudos to Cynthia. She really knows how to make things happen and it's NOT your fault if they raise prices, but it is your fault that we have such high turnouts. We should give you a big Hoorah!!!

I have to say I like the intimacy of the Artisan, though I wouldn't eat their food and the drinks are a bit pricey. I have always had good repartee with the bartenders but haven't tried to negotiate. Unfortunately, it feels like $12-16 drinks are becoming the norm in Vegas unless you are physically glued to a slot machine.

Definite thanks to Cynthia for organizing this, HOORAH! I could never herd this many cats. I am excited about wherever we go next.

I am wondering if we can meet during actual "happy hour" at these establishment (4 pm). I had some wonderful $6 highballs at a bar inside the Venetian and happy hour went for a couple of hours.

Ya know, if the biggest complaint of the week - and it seems to be so far - is the price of drinks at one of our venues, I would say that we had a very successful event!

As far as our opening gathering goes, I think we can fairly say that "The Artisan is by far the worst venue there is, except for all of the others."

Over our past 10 years, we've had our opening gathering at Flex, Zingers, Suede (or whatever it was called those years), Blue Ox, Firefly, Artisan, and Drink And Drag. We had complaints about all of them, but you know what? We packed the place each time! Our opener's attendance has been over 100 for the past 5 years, at Blue Ox, Firefly, Artisan (twice) and Drink And Drag.

Now for those of you who don't want to see Artisan (or whatever) on the schedule again, here's your homework assignment. Pound the pavement! Find us a venue that can hold 100-some and wants to do a dynamite bar business on an otherwise slow weeknight. You don't need anyone's permission to go looking, just don't commit to anything in the name of DLV until you have the OK from the ORG group. The place has to be conducive to "quality social time" and has to hit that sweet spot between comfort and mainstream-ness, if that is indeed a word, meaning it has to be comfortable for those just peeking out of the closet, yet not claustrophobic to those who are avowedly mainstream.

Now when the manager or salesdroid starts talking about contracts, guarantees, minimums (minima?), deposits, etc., you're gonna have to be very creative and a skillful negotiator! It's not impossible, and Mindy, Kimberly, Marisa, Cami, and Cynthia have all done it in recent years. (I'm sure I'm forgetting somebody, sorry!)

Anyone up for the challenge?

The Artisan was a very nice place and Cynthia did a great job putting together
a wonderful gathering. How would she know in advance they were going to pull a
fast one on the drink prices. Personally I'd love to go back there, but
perhaps a call to the manager is in order letting him know of the resistance
of some to return as they feel they were being exploited and not treated like
any other member of the public. I mean DLV put in over a 100 people in a bar
which rarely sees that many at that time of day. Everyone who planned
something did a great job. You're right Annie, if it wasn't a great event. we
wouldn't be coming back next year, and I intend to!

I love the Artisan as a gathering place...I just don't like the outrages
bar prices, or their menu which seems to have gone down in quality, and
the fact that they young female bar tender addressed me as "sir" when I
was presenting myself as lady!
