Keeping in touch.

Postby Bev » Wed Jan 23, 2013 10:18 am

Here’s an idea for anyone planning on attending DLV… get some personal business cards printed up with your femme name and email address that you can pass out to new friends so you can keep contact after the event.
I suggest using Vistaprints (www.vistaprints.com). You can get 250 cards for under $10! I use them a lot and have several different cards for different activities. When ordering get the blank backside so you can write on it, and don’t pay for expedited shipping. You will get your order within a week or 10 days with their standard shipping charge.
See you at DLV2013!

Or just print them out on business card stock available everywhere, the
hard part remember to take them.

Bev, This sounds like a good idea. Do you normally just put your name
and email on there? Nothing else?

These cards used to be very popular in the TG community, but it seems like they've somewhat fallen out of vogue over the past decade. They're kind of the semi-modern version of what you would call a "Calling Card" a few generations ago.

If you want, I'll scan one of mine and post it.

Here's what I have on mine:

Name - obviously, in type large enough to be read without glasses in dim light.
Photo - headshot. Mine is somewhat dated I admit, vintage 90s, as you can tell from the style. :)
E-mail - long-standing address which I actually read and respond to. :)
Web site - URL of a web site I no longer actively maintain. :)

The next run of these I do, I'll eliminate the web site. (T-girl vanity sites are sooooooo last century!) :) However, I still have quite a few of the last run left to hand out. :)

I do them on a common HP deskjet printer. I use a card stock of a particular pattern in the "GeoGraphics" series, which any Office Depot/Max/whatever will have.

These used to be very common in the TG community, and I used to collect dozens of them from others when I would go to a TG event. It seems like in this day and age, fewer seem to have them unless they are selling something. :) :)

I ordered mine through Vista Print. $10 for 250 shipping included and at
the end they let me doublr my porder for another $3.95. 500 cards for
$13.95. just be careful as they offer other opptions that increase the
cost. I went just for their basic one. I have attached what they look
like.

See everyone in April.

Hugs

I love this idea and will definitely try it this year. I am terrible at keeping in touch post-dlv with dozens of names scrawled on random hotel stationary. Lets bring it back in fashion and just replace the vanity site with twitter account, blog, or mydlv username.

I just got my cards today from Vistaprint. I uploaded my own design from Photoshop instead of just using a template, and upgraded to the better glossy cardstock for an extra $1. Overall great value and I'm very happy with how they turned out.
