Prom (was Re: Call For Comments - DLV 2013 dates)

I went to my first and only prom when I was 36yrs old. I took my, then, 17yo stepdaughter. She knew I had never been to my own prom and she made it a very special occaision for me. I would consider renting a tux and being an escort for the girls who would attend this one.

I think some of you are making too much of a deal that "this is not a real prom". Many of you try to be SOOOO realistic and forget what it is to dream. I can't think of many things that are more "girlish" as a prom.

I took a post-op friend of mine to a doll store, just because growing up, she had never played with dolls. You should have seen the excitement on her face, picking them up and holding them.

What better an idea than to turn a dream into a reality!!!

Be careful what you ask for, Bob, you may get it! You may end up with more prom dates than you can handle.

It's a show! It's a much a real prom as Tony And Tina's Wedding is a real wedding!

It's interactive theater. ("Theater without the fourth wall.") Yes, the audience (voluntarily or involuntarily) takes part in the whole scene, and sometimes it's not known for sure if certain people are part of the cast or part of the audience.

I'm very surprised that anyone would poo-poo something like this. A prom-theme activity has been a recurring suggestion in feedback for many years and it seems to me that this would be a perfect opportunity to satisfy that.

I may even wear a long dress. (I will if Densie will. - Insert smart@$$ Galiano comment here.)

Glad that you were able to attend a prom. Many don't have the second
chance. Was it the Senior Prom? Many gals that I know that had done
this, and you are very correct, found it was a very special time and
evening, and also the first dance of the night too with the daughter and
dad was special. The only other time that comes close is usually when
the bride dances with the father at the wedding reception.

You should be careful of what you ask for. I can't ever remember seeing you in a dress, or Densie for that matter. Sounds an awful lot like a dare to me.
As far as me...I could never have enough prom dates. Why do you think I love DLV so much? I'm always surrounded by the most charming women there are!!

The last one I remember was in 2002.

Annie as a blond in a gown done by the gal that ran a shop called Hidden
Woman that was near the Commerical Center / Tony Roma's. No brunette,
no jeans or DLV tee shirt.

Check archive photos of 2002. Later that night in a gown, I think the
group pic was at the old Frontier Lobby area, after the show in that
casino -- was it Frank Marino's show???

Contrary to popular opinion, I do like to dress up, when and where appropriate. The various DLV follow-up pages do have some photos of me in a dress at times. I used to always dress for the Limo Tour before I started working on it.

This was from our office H'ween party a few years back when our department's theme was "Pimp N Ho" and I did try to do the part. Notice the (fake) nose ring and the streaked hair. (Recognize the glasses?)

I have actually seen Densie in a dress, but I did a quick check of the DLV follow-up pages and I can't find any proof.

I'm with you on a prom theme being girlish as you put it!

For DLV three or four years ago I proposed a prom evening. Before I knew
it, the event was taken over and transformed into a mega-production
dinner-dance that was so costly and complicated it died on its own.

By the time it died it had become so complicated even I didn't want to
go. :)

What I had in mind was simply a dress up night with a theme in a gay
bar. This was in no way an original or new idea and many of the gay
clubs where I live, and near where I live, sometimes have a prom theme
on a spring weekend evening. They simply decorate with a few balloons
and streamers, have a DJ, complimentary hors d'oeuvres, and people dress
up some, a few men may wear tuxedos, but anything reasonably nice will
do, and women, as is usual, dress up more, but we do anyway, mostly
simple cocktail dresses, and there will be a few evening dresses
especially worn by younger women. Whatever, just about every one dresses
better that evening than is usual in your typical East Tennessee gay
bar.

The ones I have been to have been fun and people seem to look forward to
them. What I had in mind for DLV was simply getting a local Las Vegas
gay bar to sponsor an evening like that for locals as well as our group
to achieve the the "critical mass" that always makes for a better
evening. I was going to try to do get one going last year, but I lost my
one contact with whom I had done some initial planning.

A show like this new interactive one might be fun for those who wanted
to go, probably far better than a little dress-up evening in a gay bar,
and would require even less effort on our part than convincing a Las
Vegas gay bar to have a prom theme evening.

I can't imagine why having a dress up evening can get so complicated or
elicit so many less than positive comments and I know having fun doesn't
have to be complicated!

I keep saying that we want to avoid events that are so complicated to
produce they just aren't fun! If its complicated its not going to be fun
and a show like this would not complicated for us. It has maximun fun
potential for those who like to look nice occasionally and reminisce;
even if what they are reminiscing about never happened. Others might
just enjoy coming to see people who do look nice!

I've been attending DLV since 2001 and I won't count the times that I've been
unable to dress pretty for some activity and ended up joining the group in
drab.

While that isn't my preference (it is Diva Las Vegas for dogs sake),
this might be a chance to be an escort intentionally. I think I'd have
a problem deciding if Sarah or Dave would attend something like this,
it's kind of like being a designated driver, except I'd have to wear a
tie.

The Awesome 80s will cover quite a few things for:

Those that want to dance at night clubs, you like or love or tolerate
only the 80s music, and dress in exotic wear Those that want to dress in
a 80s outfits, or 80s exotic wear Those that want to dress as going to a
Prom, complete with a prom show and activities of a Prom Those that want
to dress in casual mode Those that want to dress in dressy casual Those
that want to see a live/interactive production show Those that loved the
80s Those that loved the 80s music

Its mainstream - and its unknown how the public or the show cast will
react or not react.

Its not limited to a certain attire. Go as how you want to, and your
level of dress. Its for those that want to go do this, as any other DLV
activity, plan it.

Those that don't want this, will not attend, like any other DLV
activity.
