Anti- Discrimination Laws effective 10/01/2011

The governor of Nevada will be signing 3 bills that were passed by the state legislature last week.
CARSON CITY – Despite opposition from Republican legislators, Gov. Brian Sandoval will sign a bill today prohibiting discrimination against transgender workers.

Dale Erquiaga, senior adviser to the governor, said Sandoval will also sign two other bills approved by the Legislature to ban gender discrimination.

Assembly Bill 211, to be signed today, passed the Assembly 29-13 and the Senate 11-10, with all of the opposition coming from GOP lawmakers.

The bill prohibits discrimination in employment based on gender identity or expression. Gender identity or expression, according to the bill, means gender-related identity appearance, expression or behavior of a person, regardless of the person’s assigned gender at birth.

The Assembly on Monday approved the two other anti-discrimination bills on transsexuals in public accommodations and housing. The vote was 29-13 and the bills are on their way to the governor. All 13 "no" votes were cast by Republicans.

And to think that there are some amongst us (in DLV) that buy into the
party these 13 men represent.

Shame, Shame, Shame! May I suggest you write on your foreheads I SUPPORT
THE GOP AND LOVE GETTING F*CKED BY THAT PARTY!!!! Because in reality
that is all they are doing. Some might say , yeah but so does the other
party. Well, that is true. But I'll put my money on that other party to
be more friendlier towards us and stand with us in our cause.

They may screw us but at least they'll say "Thank you!"

In all fairness to the 'Pubs, Governor Sandoval, who signed the aforementioned bills without any apparent hesitation, is Republican.

However, I do agree with you that there is one political party around which a significant amount of anti-GLBT sentiment revolves!

No doubt there are some 'Pubs who are with us, but not too many. Thank
goodness Gov. Sandoval is among those few that are. Wish more were like
him or like minded. We need to acknowledge those that are every
opportunity we get. Hopefully many of us can send the good Gov. a Thank
You note, even if you're not from Nevada.
