New Cell Phone Laws

nevada flagCell, texting news: Nevada’s governor has approved legislation banning handheld cell phone use and text messaging for all drivers. The Assembly’s final vote came May 30 and the Senate signed off June 4.

Nevada is the 34th state to ban texting while driving.

The measure, SB 140, was approved by Gov. Brian Sandoval, who made it clear that he would support a statewide ban on cell phone use and text messaging while driving. The law will go into full effect Jan. 1 with warnings to be handed out in October. Fines are $50 then $100 and then $250.

As a woman who teaches folks to drive I can tell you driving with a cell
phone even the hands free version is like driving with an alcohol level
of .08.

Texting is really like driving blind.

Great law should be nation wide in my opinion

As a UK resident usage of cellphones whilst driving has been a criminal
offence here since December 2003! Technically you can't use them at all
even when stationary if your engine is running. The unbelievable thing
is that the US still has states that hasn't outlawed it.

Cell phones in Cars

Hi

They banned the use of hand held phones here about this time last year.

Use of blue tooth hands free is allowed for voice calls and text is
banned outright. You can stop and talk on the side of most roads in NZ
anyway so its not a big issue.

The reasoning was the link between number of accidents and use of cell
phones (although I suspect it was more about texting than voice calls
but the latter certainly divides attention as well). There were a number
of very well documented cases of the fatalities where a text message had
been sent just prior to the accident.

Hugs Michelle

I learned that a couple of years ago while driving on the M74 somewhere
north of Lockerbie on my way to Aberdeen. The cops pulled me over, and
while nice about it, gave me a stern lecture after examining my US
Passport and Tennessee driver's license. To my surprise they let me go
after sympathizing that, "You have a mighty long way to go!"
