Makeup Question

I feel like getting all new makeup and a new look. What are your
favorite make up counters in what stores? I'm in San Diego, so
Dillard's won't work. I may go out tomorrow.

Love ya,

Gina

I'm assuming you want something a bit higher on the food chain
than Walgreens. :)

The one that many DLVers are raving about is Bare Escentuals, but
I don't know if there's a shop convenient to you. I've had good
experiences with BE, thanks to Ginger's recommendation.

I could have sworn I saw Dillards in the San Diego area, but
maybe I was on drugs. :)

Clinique at Dillards is usually TG-friendly and if there's no
Dillards, they have them at Macy's too.

The Sephora "store within a store" at JCP is good too.

What I like about Bare Escentuals is first of all the powders are TSA
friendly when flying. The basic starter kit is better than reasonably
priced.

Additional colors for eyes and blush can be added as you want and have
funds. The lipcolors - lipstick, liners and gloss are really nice and
last well. The lip gloss is even "tingly" which is a nice treat. I
found practically all of my additional Bare Escentuals brushes new on
eBay for a fraction of the store cost; don't tell anyone I gave that
tip! My Bare Escentuals brush case also came from eBay. All of this
even at full store price was less than the equivalent Mac products and
they don't dry out, mascara excluded of course.

It seems the only items I use up and have to replace is the foundation
and finishing powder called "Mineral Veil." As for mascara, you can get
by with Maybelline which I often do because I don't live near a Bare
Escentuals store, but the Bare Escentuals mascara does seem to go on
and cover better. Finally if you just don't feel like good skin care
after a night out leaving the powders on all night won't hurt you like
the heavy makeups like Mac will.

Here is a disclaimer. I don't know how well Bare Escentuals does for
those who have beard problems. This is not something I have to worry
about and maybe someone else can advise you on this.

I was a Mac girl for years, but I am a confirmed Bare Escentuals fan now
and don't envision changing. If you are not near a Bare Escentuals
retail store, Sephora and some department stores also have Bare
Escentuals counters.

For me most of my makeup comes from Avon and Walgreens but my foundation
is MAC Studio Fix as it gives me really good coverage and I always shop
at Nordstrom's as I have always been treated great there.

I switched over to Bare Essentials a couple of years ago and I find it
incredible. It is the first makeup I have ever used that will not sweat
off in the NV and AZ heat. Ulta carries their products but they also
run some specials at their site on line

As a caveat though, I do not shave as I have my beard waxed off. It was
much too dense and grew too fast to try and cover with dermablend.

I would like to add my thoughts to this conversation because I
absolutely love makeup. I have been a bare minerals gal for many years
and absolutely do love their lip gloss for the shire and tingle.

I have become more and more aware that it's not just the makeup we wear
as trans women or as cis women.

I have begun to use a swiss formulated skin care line call Arbonne.
After using these products for a month my cis women friends started
saying all maleness had gone from my skin. OMG that was the best thing
anyone could say to me.

I have now also begun to use their mineral makeup, amazing eye shadow
and mascara at quality that that surpasses Mac and surpasses brands like
Esty Lauder for a similar price

Still have a few favorites from other brands like my favorite lipstick
formula remains Mary Kay and I buy many scents from Avon

What makes the big difference is these are completely vegan no animal
anything and no mineral oil either unlike just about every skin care
product and makeup on the market.

This has me thinking that I should start shopping for makeup someplace
other than Home Depot or Lowes.
