Pinkfest postscript

I thought that Pinkfest was a lot of fun.

One of the most remarkable things to me was just how many T-oriented
events there are in the Chicago area. There were three different events
on Saturday alone - Rori's Halloween Party, Chi Chapter's meeting, and
the movie at the Center on Halsted.

I thought attendance at the movie might be down with the other events at
the same time, but TransCinema night was a full house - a record high.

Then on Sunday the GLBT film series through PFLAG and other groups
packed the Veterans Room at the Oak Park Public Library. The movie
"Screaming Queens" was great, and what a wonderful surprise that they
had to add four extra rows of chairs due to the high interest in a
trans-documentary on a beautiful fall day. Bleue Benton gave a very nice
tour of the library too. They are especially proud of their transgender
collection and policies on inclusiveness.

I think it is worth noting that there seems to be something happening
all the time in the trans community in Chicago. What a difference from
20 years ago. No one has to feel isolated or alone... There are plenty
of friends and allies out there.

Thank you to everyone the helped make Pinkfest a success - especially
Annie and Ginger!

For all those local Pinkfesters, don't forget the Transgender Day of
Remembrance and Night of the Fallen Stars on November 18th at the Center
on Halsted. June LaTrobe does a terrific job planning the event, and
attendees exceeded the seating capacity of the theater last year... So
get there early!

That was very enjoyable. Thank you for suggesting it. It was a
very good and diverse crowd.

I enjoyed this one too. Things like this are very atypical for
TG gatherings.
