Setting the Pinkfest 2008 dates ...

I would like to get this scheduled soon for several
reasons, one being that air fares will be rising more
quickly this year, another is that we've generated a
fair amount of interest at DLV this year and I would
like to announce it to the DLV folks while that
interest is still warm.

We've talked about the weather and the conflicts with
other TG events. Obviously we don't want to go
head-to-head with a major TG event. We would lose that
fight! :)

As for the weather, it's a crapshoot at any time.
We've seen it chilly one year, ungodly hot and humid
one year, rainy one year, and lucked out a few times,
but we've always had a good time, rain or shine.

The one factor I think that needs to be considered is
that of participation, particularly if a certain
timeframe positively locks out somebody who would
absolutely attend otherwise.

As Ginger writes:

>My first choice is October 23 through 26 and my
>second choice is October 16 through 19 if we do
>Thursday - Sunday again.

Is there anybody who is ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY LOCKED
OUT of either of those timeframes, who would
definitely attend if we had it at another time?

As far as my own schedule, mid and late September look
bad for me, major project, which may creep into early
October. Both of Ginger's proposed timeframes are
looking good for me at this time, but I'm not
everybody.

Comments, gang? In particular, if you're locked out of
either of those timeframes, please speak now.

Thanks! :)

In my case I never know what is happening next. My
biggest issue is work. I work part tiome contract and
need to take the jobs when I can get them. I may be
off work for a month or two then suddenly end up on a
job in "Timba Too" for two or three weeks working 60
to 80 hours a week. The last job I took was supsed to
take about 2 to 3 weeks and lasted almost 6 months.

so for my sake set the date whenever you get the most
people free. If I can make it I will if not then it
is my loss. Who knows I might luck out and be working
in Vegas then and have some company pick up all my
expenses.

October 23-26 is best for me. It is completely open for me. I have a
conflict on October 18 but the other days that week are open for me.

OK. Late October is exactly when the weather starts heading south in
Chicago. The_most wonderful months of the year in Chicago are May,
September and very early October._ The_differences between May and
October are minimal weather-wise but_the scenery differences are
extraordinary.__The sun_comes in from a different angle in May and the
light is so much brighter and the colors of_the leaves_are a much
lighter green - they_look so new._ In the fall, the sun has moved and
you can tell the difference immediately, the_leaves are changing colors
and what's left of the green ones are a much deeper green._ There
is_usually low or no humidity in_these months, the nights and mornings
are cool - no need_for air conditioning or heat just yet.___You can take
a walk and not work up a sweat, sit outside to read or talk and not have
to swat mosquitos or bees, build a fire in an outdoor fireplace and
actually feel a need for it._ There are a lot of people who like hot
summers for swimming, sunning and other outdoor activities, but the
humidity in Chicago in the summer can be a real drain._ There are a lot
better hotel deals during these times as well - not the height of the
tourist season and you can catch a Cubs game in the Spring and September
and watch the Bears in September/October._ Best time for viewing the
fall colors in the area is in early October - they are just beginning to
change and not too many leaves have fallen off yet - just enough to make
it interesting._ Chicago is a beautiful city and seeing it in the two
different lights is a wonderful contrast.

While the shoulder seasons are lovely, if you are there during the
summer (and summers do vary heat and humidity wise) do bring a bathing
suit and beach towel so you can try a long walk or bike ride along the
lake front (you can rent one at Navy Pier and other locations) and just
jump in the lake when you get too warm._ And for a counter point,
December is a great time to visit Chicago - the weather is not bitter
cold yet, and the crowds, shopping, and lights on Michigan Avenue and
all around downtown are festive and bright._

Annie,

October 16-19 is out for me. I will be with the company at the iHobby
Expo, in Rosemont, on those days.

Having enjoyed DLV so much last month, I very much hope to
attend PinkMyst and will seek to fit whatever date ya'll
decide on.

Hmmm, Chicago in mid/late October means "cute boots", a proper
raincoat, umbrella, and maybe a pretty scarf. Yea! More Shopping
Excuses!

OK Group! I move that we go with October 23 through 26 mainly because
Elena who has been our mainstay on this event says it's the best for her
and no one has said that it does not work for them. It will also work
for Britney who want to shop for cute boots, a raincoat, umbrella and
pretty scarf .... what better place than the Magic Mile!

I just checked and the Red Roof Inn on Ontario is showing availability
for that weekend ..... its location is almost perfect or everything, but
Hunters. While it's not cheap anywhere else, it is for downtown Chicago!

I second the motion.

Comments?

No date is ideal, but this one, so far at least, has raised no
conflicts from those who want to attend.

Yes, the weather and other factors need to be considered, but
they can't lock out longtimers, nor place Pinkfest too close
to one of the major events that will siphon off attendees.

Comments? Going once. :)
