Best Hotel Location for DLV Activies

Postby RitaHayworth » Wed Mar 23, 2011 8:17 pm

I've got a room at the Paris... however a great deal just came up for the Wynn/Encore... which is a gorgeous place.
Is there any geographical or tactical advantage to staying at the Paris? Is it closer to the activities? (i.e.-not having to hike for miles in heels).

Thanks for the advice....

The best answer to this is "it depends", and much of that "depends" is based upon your comfort level and transportation needs.

Paris is avowedly GLBT-friendly and is the only major Strip hotel to actively invite GLBT business.

If you will have a vehicle and if you are comfortable driving in Las Vegas, Wynn/Encore will probably be fine.

The advantages to Paris (IP, Harrah's, MGM) is that it will make the offering and sharing of rides easier among DLV attendees. Wynn/Encore have no Monorail service, and they have discontinued their shuttle to the Convention Center Monorail station. The Monorail may or may not be relevant to your needs.

Most of our activities are not easily walkable (heels or not) from Paris or Wynn. Some activities are walkable from Monorail stations, many are not.

Paris/Harrah's/MGM/IP will be closer to the "center of the action" (non-DLV) on the Las Vegas Strip.

Hope this helps.

A trick I use that might be helpful...

Usually a day around to many venues encompasses the use of a larger than
normal purse/handbag/tote, if I have to walk a distance from point A
(starting point) to point B (destination) I carry a pair of soft, light
weight, flexible flats in it, similar to a ballerina type shoe. When
distance is involved the heels go in the bag, so what if the heels stick
out, and when I reach the destination the heels go back on. The flats
get folded in half, placed in a ziplok bag and stuffed in my bag.
Folding them takes up less room, ie a smaller bag needed, the plastic
bag keeps my bag contents clean. The hardest part is find womans sizes
to fit my men's size 12 feet, LOL.

Hope this suggestion helps.

Every little piece of information is helpful.

Would not be using monorail... have own car... the part about Paris actively pursuing GBLT business is more important... they probably don'r get very many guests in drag at the Wynn/Encore... you're right about the comfort zone... and everything at Wynn/Encore is a major hike... heels or not!

Thanks for the insight...

Even though the management of the Paris has gone out of their way to actively invite the GLBT community, I do think that it's very important that we be very careful and observe guidelines, in particular restroom usage. That statement welcoming GLBT folks is not a "free pass" to the restrooms.

"Best practice" is to always use the restroom in your hotel room if you're at your home hotel. I would suggest that those staying at the Paris follow that. There's no question about it being appropriate.
