Postby tawneyfox » Wed Mar 16, 2011 9:42 pm

Hey Everybody,
I was wondering if anybody could recommend a place where I can get my nails done as well as get my eyebrows shaped while at DLV.

Getting excited!!!!

Harmony Nail Spa, long-time DLV supporter. 702-792-6245

Appointments are strongly suggested as they tend to be quite busy during DLV week.

Paula and Barbara from HNS will be present at the larger DLV activities.

I looked them up and I don't think they do eyebrows. Has anybody been to "brows r us"?

Give them a call. Ask for Paula or Barbara. Say you're a DLV attendee. (No, they will not bite!) :)

Ask them. They do have a couple of full-service cosmetologists on staff.

Thanks for the tip. I called them and they sound very accomodating. Can't wait for the pampering to begin. Tought to decide what style to go with. I'm partial to French Tips, but anyone got any other ideas?

Here's my suggestion for nails. Consider the size, shape, and condition of your hands and nails when selecting the style. Also ask Paula and staff what they recommend for your particular hands.

If your hands are large or rough appearing, go with muted neutral shades. Nothing will give you away more than bright scarlet claws and gaudy jewelry on large hands. Several of our people go for acrylics and "nail art", and if you like that, all the better, keeping in mind that artwork will attract attention.

One thing that you can do between now and DLV is to observe GGs of your age, size, and hand type and see what they do as far as nails and jewelry and such.

Nails and Brows question

Hello Cami,

As Annie has wrote, alot deals with the size and shape of
your hands. If your desire is to have the best femme shaped
hands, the shape of the nails have alot to help.

French tips works well with slender and long fingers.
Big fingers will have big wide nails that the french tip will
make the fingers look bigger because of the size
of the nail and the flat wide cut at the end.

If you are not used to sharp cornered nails, the french tip
may snag clothing items such as lace or mesh material.
Some corners can actually cut the skin if sharp and strong
enough, especially the fake acrylic ones. If its your natural
nail and not acrylic nails, then the nail can be broken off because
of the sharp corner catching on things and tearing. It can
be a simple thread on a towel after a shower.

Standard pointed nails makes big fingers look more
slender because of the oval shape and length.

Too long nails makes it hard to pick up things, type or
do anything with the finger tips, especially when trying
to put on a necklace latch, or buttoning pants or
tops....or even picking up coins.

I've found the darker the nail color used helps make
the finger look smaller too.

You can buy the walgreen variety brands, but I've
seen alot of nail places uses O.P.I. for it has good
color choices and quick to dry.

I tried one unknown brand that was popular with
teens was a nail color that changed color based on
the temp of the nail, so the pink part of the nail was
one color, but the white part, that was away from
the finger was another color. It was available at
CVS and Target at that time. The bad was I had
wait a very long time for it to dry.

Don't forget to color your toe nails too, esp if wearing
sandals or open footware. Its one thing ggs do look
at are the nails and color on the hands and toes if
visable.

Hope this helps!

Nails and Brows question

oops forgot to add...

Paula at Harmony does excellent manicures and
pedicures that should be done before coloring of
nails and toes.

She also has patterned nail colors and
rhinestones for those that want more
flash or bling on their nails, and something
more than the plain one color. Again, if this is
done, the rhinestones and other things glued to
the nail can catch on things. It will also draw
attention of eyes to you.

The color can coordinate with the
clothes color you will be wearing and
also your makeup (eye shadow and blush)
and lipstick. The classic basic that alot of ggs
use is some variant of red. But that is not a
standard any more, for many ggs wears different
colors that don't match what they are wearing
or their lipstick or just want a different color. Some
will have nails colored to a specific event on one
night, but will wear the color with other clothes
on the next few days, that may not match.

Many ggs check other ggs out by starting
at the feet and work their way up. They
will check out the nail color and how
everything matches. Its part of being a
female. If you look better than they do,
you can also see that on how they react.
This can also lead into them reading you too.

Consider the nail style that will make your hands
look the most femme would be the best
way to choose the style.

I usually grow my nails long but not shaped
and then have standard pointed fingernails
done by Paula, after a manicure and pedicure.
This allows Paula the best way to prepare and
paint my nails, and makes my feet and hands
look femme. I wear black also, but also in
combination with denim blue, purple, and brown.

For me, I have used many dark single colors that has
glitter or gives a metallic finish. The one I am
using now is a single OPI color that under different
types of light appears to be almost black, dark red,
dark bronze, and even a very dark blue. It works
with my lipstick and what I wear. But that is for
me, it may not work for you. Its just a example.

Hi Cami,

Someone previously mentioned, I can't remember who, that if you have
large/wide hands and fingers you should avoid French Tips and go with
the traditional pointed nail. At the TG clubs I hang out at there is an
Gurl who has large hands, as do I. She wears the French Tips and I wear
mine pointed, mine look 1/2 as large wide as hers and my fingers look
thinner also. So I have to agree with the person who posted the info on
French VS Pointed. Buy some cheap press-ons of each style (99 cent
store) and that will give you a visual on what is best in your eyes.
Hope this works for you.
