It's said that every cloud has a silver lining, and we believe
we've found one in the cloud which rained upon us this past
weekend.
As we noted here and in the general mailing, the venue which was
to host our Monday evening Welcome Meet And Greet and related
activities closed with short notice.
We're happy to announce that our ORG group has just voted to
accept the offer to host our Welcome Celebration at the Artisan
Hotel.
No, this ain't gonna be in a boxy convention room down a long
hall! We'll have our festivities in their very elegant bar and
full-service restaurant. This will be very similar to what we
had planned at the original location, but better! :)
The Artisan is a very classy place! It's a smaller "boutique"
hotel with an "artist" theme, as the name implies. You can
preview the facility on line here:
http://www.theartisanhotel.com/
The management of the Artisan has assured us that we are most
welcome and that they are supportive of our lifestyle.
This gives us a venue which is unquestionably "mainstream" yet
comfortable for those who are just coming out and are still
shy of general public exposure. (For those who are unsure, we
are planning a carpool and escort from Monday afternoon's
Beginner Open House to the Welcome Celebration.)
The tentative schedule is as follows, similar to what we had
planned at the previous venue:
6:00pm: Happy Hour (Artisan) - mv
7:00pm: Dinner (Artisan) - mv
8:00pm: Welcome Celebration (Artisan) - mv
8:30pm: Group Photo (Artisan) - mv
Food service will be available for the entire evening, including
the Happy Hour period.
At 10:00pm we will join Densie, Cynthia, and company for Karaoke
at the Beauty Bar downtown.
Big thanks go out to our volunteer force who really "hit the
ground running" this past weekend and took on the challenge!
Several possibilities were proposed, three of which appeared
to have merit, and two which were obviously better than the
original plans.
A vote was taken and the Artisan was chosen by a significant
majority of our volunteers, the vote being final just a few
minutes ago.
Special thanks go to Cynthia and Marisa, who met with the two
"finalist" venues and negotiated the proposals.
You can be assured that the DLV 2011 Welcome Celebration will
be an affair second to none!
