Seasons Greetings:
Merry Christmas, Happy (belated) Hanukkah, and Happy New Year
from the organizers and volunteers of DLV! We hope your holiday
season is joyous and rewarding.
Welcome to those who just joined the list. If you have any
questions or concerns, please let us know.
We're looking forward to seeing all of you at Diva Las Vegas
2011 this coming April.
This will be the last general DLV mailing for 2010. Regular
mailings will resume in early January.

Suggested hotels for DLV 2011:
Although Diva Las Vegas is not centered around any particular
hotel, we always suggest one or more hotels for our attendees
who wish to know where others will be staying and where the
previous attendees have had good service and few hassles.
There's no requirement that you stay in our suggested hotels.
You may stay anywhere you wish and we typically have people in
most of the major hotels and quite a few in out of the way
places as well.
This year we are suggesting the following hotels, listed here
in alphabetical order:
Harrah's: (midscale, center Strip)
Imperial Palace: (lower-priced, center Strip)
MGM Grand: (moderately upscale, south Strip)
Paris: (upscale, center Strip)
Rio: (upper-midscale, off-Strip)
. . . . .
So, what's the story with the Sahara?
For the first time in our history, as long as we've been
suggesting hotels for our attendees that is, the Sahara did
not make the list of suggested hotels for DLV 2011.
The Sahara was nominated and considered, but when it came to a
vote of our volunteers, it was turned down. The primary reason
for this was two first-person reports from two of our volunteers
who had stayed at the Sahara recently. Both told the same story,
of massive cutbacks in services and amenities which are no longer
available.
Should conditions at the Sahara improve, it will be considered
for future DLV events, but we must regretfully announce that we
do not suggest the Sahara for our DLV 2011 attendees.
. . . . .
A few specific suggestions:
If you want the absolute cheapest room, period: Imperial
Palace. IP's Capri rooms (see below) are often times their
cheapest offering.
If you want to be near the largest group of other DLV
attendees: Imperial Palace.
If you want a "motel" type room or don't want to transit a
crowded hotel lobby: Imperial Palace and ask for a "Capri"
room.
If you want the nicest room: MGM Grand or Paris.
If you want to be right in the center of the action: Harrah's,
IP, or Paris.
If you want the hotel which is on record as actively inviting
GLBT folks: Paris.
If you want to be away from the Strip: Rio.
Further details on our suggested hotels appears here:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/2011hotels.html
One special note: If you will be needing a ride to the DLV
activities, we very strongly suggest that you stay in one of
our suggested hotels. This will allow you to share rides (at
your own risk, of course) with others staying there.

Re-registration and things to come:
Diva Las Vegas 2011, April 3-8, happens sooner in the calendar
year than any of our previous events throughout our history.
Therefore we will need to "bump up" our normal milestones and
checkpoints a few weeks compared to when these have occurred
in the past.
Most of you who have attended DLV in the past can expect to
receive your re-registration e-mail the last week in December.
This allows you to re-register for DLV 2011 with only a few
mouse clicks and no typing in most cases. Please be on the
lookout for your re-registration mailing on or about December
27th.
. . . . .
Newcomer registration for those on this mailing list (if you
are reading this via e-mail, this includes you) will open in
mid January.
This year we're going to try something different, and if it
works well, it will most likely stay. We're going to try
eliminating the annoying "validation" step for newcomer
registration and see how it works without it. Two of the key
indicators we'll be watching closely are the number of no-show
registrants and the number of newcomers who arrive unprepared
or unaware of how things work at DLV. If these numbers stay
at the levels they've been in recent years, we'll most likely
forego the validation in years to come. If these numbers go up
significantly, validation will return.
. . . . .
General (open) registration will begin around mid February.
