Only 27 days left, gang!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Getting close:
The time has come, I believe, to go to a twice-per-week mailing. We'll
do this Wednesday and Sunday, skipping the Wednesday one if material
appears sparce. We'll go to an as-needed mailing toward the middle-end
of April.

Airfare notes:
Checking with Travelocity, roundtrip fares are still available in the
$200-300-ish range from most everywhere. I checked Omaha, Chicago, BWI,
NYC, even Philadelphia (which is often higher) had $300-ish fares.
Some of these are 21 day in advance, most are 14 day in advance.
Frontier Airlines (serves Las Vegas from many major markets) has been
advertising some very attractive fares around here. There's lots of fine
print that's not actually readable on the TV, conditions and stuff, I
assume.
Don't procrastinate, gang, we had some people get royally gouged last
year on airfare.

A lost soul:
We have a person by the name of Staci, local to the Las Vegas area, who
recently registered giving an e-mail address in the cs.com domain. Her
e-mail is bouncing due to mailbox full. We have no other means of
contact for her. If anybody knows her, please tell her to either clear
out her mailbox or give us another e-mail address. Thanks.

I see two definite areas of interest.
1. One-on-one makeup instruction and critique.
2. Makeovers prior to the big dress-up evenings of Saturday and Sunday,
and perhaps Friday evening as well. I see the demand for this
concentrated heavily just prior to Saturday evening.
There ya go, ladies. If you want a makeover just prior to the big
evenings, please be prepared to get a reservation in early.

Headcount:
>Any idea on how many will be there?
... and ...
>I know you can't tell how many people are attending this year, so could you
Actually, this year I think we have a very good handle on what our
headcount will be, using history and some semi-scientific methods.
Numbers appear to be converging in the 70's. Of course, as before we'll
probably never get everybody in one place at once. The events that will
have the most will be the evening events on Friday, Saturday, and
Sunday.
>tell me how many attended last year? Thank you.
IIRC, around 50, again never everybody in the same place at once.
A few historical notes. For the first few years, attendance almost
doubled each year and then settled on a gain of about 50% per year.
Another indication is that each year, very consistently, headcount
total has been very close to 1/3 the number of names on the mailing
list. We're now just over 200, adding 1-2 more each day, and will,
probably be around 250 by DLV time. Both these reinforce the
projection of a headcount in the 70's.
Keep watching the numbers in the headcount projection below.

Mailbag:
>Also, to take a minute, this will be my first time out in public and you
>can guess I am very nervous about it.
This is very common. Just part of being human. Almost everybody reports
this at first, but also they report this nervousness goes away very
rapidly after they get out. Remember that you will be among friends,
even though you may not have met anybody in real life before.
>How does the deal with a big
>sister work? I could really use a little help beforehand.
The Big Sister program is informal and works two ways.
1. E-mail before DLV. If you have some concerns of a personal nature
that you want to correspond with somebody 1:1 with, just send in a brief
note stating you would like a Big Sister to contact you via e-mail.
2. During DLV. Big sisters can help out in a number of ways. If you
don't have a clue what to wear to a particular event, having trouble
finding something, need help with makeup, etc., a Big Sister can assist.
Big Sisters can also help out those who are new and nervous or uneasy
about going out in public or meeting others from the community. This
can range from some friendly one-on-one encouragement to help in a
crisis situation such as not being able to get up the nerve to walk
out of the hotel room.
>I can't commit to driving the group around at this time due to my work
>schedule changing weekly but I am sure I can pitch in somewhere along
>the way. I will let you know when I am available as soon as I know.
Thanks, the offer is appreciated. When we get a bit closer and get a
list of who needs rides and who has vehicles, we'll be looking at who
has what and doing some matching. It looks like the greatest need will
be rides to some of the weekend activities.

Thanks. I don't know if they are aware of this, but they are now. :)
>Looking forward to meeting everyone and to a great time!
I'm looking forward too. It's going to be a very good crowd this year
and as you see, lots of very exciting things to do.
>Thank you so

Yes, Margeth, it will not be the same without you.
For those listening in, Margeth is a "plank owner" of DLV and so far
has perfect attendance throughout the years. We eagerly await your
registration, Margeth {HINT}. :)
As for Galiano, that stuff seems to be the legendary drink of DLV.
(Don't try it, it's NASTY, really.) I'm sure the tales will be recalled
again this year, along with the 7-11 story, the REAL story of the Delmar
Motel (don't book a room there, it's a rathole!), etc. :)
>> They tell me (the ubiquitous "they") that yes, this is one of the shows

>...one of my fond memories from DLV's of the past. I was

Actually, that was by collecting $$$ for a tip (bribe) for the showroom
staff. Even though we've had seats already set aside for us, I did tell
the people that we would "take care" of the staff.
>> We'll be attending the 8:00pm show.
>Good idea. We need time to slam a few drinks before we go to RHPS.
Let's dooooo the time warrrp againnnnnn....

there. :)
