Only 73 days left, gang!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Welcome newcomers:

We've had a number of registrations come in this past week, as everybody
can see by the numbers below.

In a few cases, people have noted that this will be their first time,
will not know anybody, may be nervous, etc. I've tried to catch these
and send each one a note to the effect that they may want to hook up
with one of our volunteer Big Sisters, either before DLV or during.

If I've missed anybody, I apologize.

Our volunteer Big Sisters are veteran DLV people who are available for
you either prior to DLV via e-mail, or during DLV should you need them.
If you have questions or concerns that you don't feel like posting to
this list, a Big Sister could help out. If you want an honest fashion
critique, a Big Sister can give you one. Even if you get the last minute
jitters and can't get the nerve to walk out of your hotel room, let us
know, we'll get a Big Sister over to you to assure you and escort you if
necessary.

If you would like to be matched up with a Big Sister, either via e-mail
prior to DLV and/or in person 1:1 during DLV, just send a brief note
to dlv@geekbabe.com (or just reply to this) with a note to the effect
of "Big Sister request" in the subject.

Schedule change:

Slight change in our schedule.

We will be attending Frank Marino's La Cage show on Saturday evening,
May 4 as the feature activity of that evening. We're hoping to get
*EVERYBODY* out for this one! This is *THE* big evening for DLV.

We will be attending LaFemme, a newer production show on Thursday
evening, May 2.

This change was made to place the less expensive show (La Cage), and the
one easier to reserve tickets for, on the weekend, in order to maximize
the turnout Saturday evening.

Golf:

The special DLVGOLF mailing list is now operational. Plans are being made
for golf on Friday morning, May 3. All further golf-related traffic will
be forwarded to the DLVGOLF list. To join the golf list, just send a brief
e-mail to: dlvgolf@geekbabe.com and say you want to be included.

Questions:

>Hi, I just want to say I am looking forward to this so much. I've been on
>your list for years, but this year I'm going to do it. I'm psyched!
>I'm up! I'm ready to go tomorrow!

Well, if you show up tomorrow, you'll have to wait a couple months for
the rest of us. :)

Seriously, we are glad to have you with us. Glad you will be able to
make it.

>Got a couple-a questions. You talk about shows and dinners and how are
>we supposed to pay for that? Do we pay in advance? What? Your web page
>doesn't really say.

Everybody is on their own, money wise. For dinner, drinks, etc.,
everybody simply pays their tab.

For such things as the shows and the limo tour, there will be some
hoop-jumps such as headcounts and possibly an advance reservation and
payment. We're finalizing plans for the shows as I speak (or type) and
details will be announced shortly.

Any actions you will have to take in order to do a particular activity
will be announced in detail here in plenty of time to act.

>Do we have to go to all events, or can we skip the one's we're not
>really interested?

No, you can pick and choose as you like. Some people will go to all of
the activities, others will just hit the evening ones and do their own
thing during the days, etc.

>Lastly, are friends invited? I've got an e mail correspondent in Vegas
>who might be interested in coming to a few things. Is this ok?

Most definitely. The more the merrier!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
High Tea:

One of the local ladies, Mindy, will be host(ess)ing an English High Tea
on Sunday afternoon, May 5. Refreshments include tea, of course, and
English-style munchies. This is one of the new(er) activities on the
calendar below. Cost will be in the teens per person. More details will
be announced as the date approaches.

Thanks to Mindy for coordinating this.

This will be an option in addition to our planned afternoon trip to
Valley Of Fire. Those who want a more dressy daytime activity can do
High Tea, and those who want something more casual and touristy can
go to Valley Of Fire.

ROFL! I love it! I'll donate to the cause! :)

And to think we freaked them out just driving a limo into their parking
lot last year! :)

If you are within walking distance of the MGM Grand, the only Thursday
activity you will need a ride to will be the Glamour Boutique Open House
and there will most certainly be a ride available. Thursday evening will
be the show (see schedule change above) at the MGM followed by the limo
tour, which will pick up at the MGM and drop off at the MGM and other
locations.

As we get closer to DLV time, we will match up drivers with riders.

IMAO, the interior of the IP hotel portion is one of the most confusing
there is. The towers, built one at a time since the days of the old
Flamingo Capri, seem to be put wherever they would fit.

I've never smelled that. I know there are boocoo exhaust fumes in the
garage, and in the drive to the front.

Actually, I can see such a smell occurring right after a heavy rain. A
normally-dry desert wash (Flamingo Wash) runs right thru that area, and
I've seen the lower level of the parking garage at the IP and the
cut-thru tunnel by Harrah's that leads back to Audrie St. flooded
with some very icky water a couple times.

>I think we'll go with the Sahara or the Strat this year,

I had hoped to have them by this mailing. I sent a reminder Friday but
I have not heard back. I held this mailing as long as I could, hoping
to include it.

Boymode:

>Hi, I don't dress in public, and if you see me you'll know why. I
>was wondering if it's cool to come join you En Drab? Is that ok?

Boymode dress is fine at any of our activities, as long as you're
comfortable with it.

>And I'm not a Tranny-Chaser either, so don't worry about that.

We won't worry about it. We really don't have any prohibitions against
admirers, but historically we don't see too many of them.

LV Lounge:

>Hi Annie, i've done a little bit of investigating about the club/bar
>scene in Las Vegas. I uncovered the Las Vegas Lounge, 900 Karen Ave.
>Las Vegas, that caters to the transgender community.

We know the LV Lounge well. We used it for two gatherings each in 2000
and 2001.

It changed significantly between DLV 2000 and DLV 2001.

In 2000 it was a nice neighborhood bar which catered to the GLBT
clientele. It was well liked by our people.

In 2001 the atmosphere had changed. In the middle of the evening,
professional "dancers" came on stage, the music was cranked to
non-conversational levels, and the drink prices escalated significantly.

For one of our gatherings there, most of the crowd wandered over to
Goodtimes when the music was cranked, the other time, everybody just
scattered to the winds, which is a Bad Thing on our last DLV evening. :(

Here's one of the feedback comments from last year ...

+>OK at first, but I didn't care much for the loud music, the lap dancing
+>sluts, and the drooling perverts who began to inhabit the place as soon
+>as the dancing started. Might be OK during the day. We went to
+>Goodtimes and had more fun there, played some pool and had a few drinks.

The last report I heard (December last year, iirc) was that the
atmosphere was even less refined and somewhat confrontive.

We have not seriously considered it for any of our feature activities
this year mainly due to the fact that too many people voted with their
feet in 2001. I'm sure some of our people (maybe you, even me, maybe)
will wander in there sometime, and based on what we see and hear, we
may or may not consider it for a feature activity in 2003.

>When I called, the guy there did not know about Diva Las Vegas. But it
>might be a place to check out when we get there.

I'm very surprised. They sure got a lot of our bar business back in 2000
and 2001, although in 2001 the crowd scattered when the music was
cranked.

Deb, the (current? former?) owner sure knew of us. When I was in LV
between 1999 and 2000 they had just opened and some of the local ladies
took me there. She gave us the grand tour, showed off the kitchen
facilities which were supposed to open Real Soon Now, etc., and
invited our business.

In 2000 it was a popular place, and kind of a default after-hours
meeting place for our people.

Bars change. If it's changed to where more of our people would like
it, word will get out and we will start using it again.
