Welcome to those who just joined. If you're new to this list, please
take a few minutes to read the kick-off mailing on the web at:

One very important note about registration. You do need to respond as
indicated to the validation e-mail that you receive right after you
register.

If you didn't receive a validation e-mail, please let us know.

To clear up one misunderstanding, there is no link to click to validate
your registration. You need to respond via e-mail as directed. This
makes sure that e-mail works between us and you both ways.

There are, unfortunately, a few registrations that are about to be
cancelled for non-response to the validation e-mail and several
reminders. These are all returnees, so everybody should know the
process, as it's the same as last year.

If you didn't receive that validation e-mail, something is wrong. If
that's the case for you, please let us know.

We appreciate everybody's cooperation with the registration procedure.

If you send e-mail to DLV which requires a response, you can expect
something back within 24 hours in almost all cases. If you send something
and don't get anything back in 2-3 days, something is wrong.

Although announcements will always come to you from the main DLV
address, I and the other DLV volunteers do use various personal and
business e-mail accounts for DLV correspondence, so please set your spam
traps accordingly.

We've had a phenomenal response so far to our express re-registration
for returnees! We currently have 55 validated registrations plus 13 SO's
for a total of 68 signed up so far. This is more than we had total for
DLV 2000!

Wow, if registrations stopped coming in today, we would still have a
great crowd! :)

If anybody attended between 2001 and 2004 and have not received their
personal re-registration URL, please write in or re-register manually at
the link immediately below. If you last attended DLV between 1997 and

Each general mailing from now until just before DLV will have a copy
of the summary of the working schedule toward the bottom. This will
be the absolute latest version each mailing. Please do keep in mind
that changes and additions will occur many times between now and DLV.

This schedule will be a summary. Venue names and location, directions,
etc. will be sent to those who have registered in what we call the Large
Final Mailing shortly before DLV.

Another thing to note is that in some timeslots there will indeed be
two (or possibly more) activities concurrently scheduled. You may then
choose which of these you wish to do. It's not intended for everybody to
do everything.

Michael Cagle Show:

The big news this week is that we've landed the Michael Cagle Show for
our final evening on Saturday of DLV week!

Michael is a vocalist who first enamored our group back in 2001 when
he was performing at the former Keys Lounge.

As many of you know, we had Michael scheduled to perform for us last
year, but due to circumstances beyond anybody's control that never
happened.

It will happen this year, however. :)

As Michael himself writes:

+being able to entertain all of you. I didn't find out until a week or
+so before that the place wasn't going to host cause they wre bankrupt.
+I had scheduled with them months in advance... and they never contacted

+live up to!!!)

+For those wonderful ladies who have never seen/heard of me... I will

If you've never heard Michael, you are in for a pleasant surprise. He's
been a favorite of the DLV gang since 2001.

I remember after Michael's 2003 show one couple approached me and said
they came expecting to be "underwhelmed" but they ended up being
"totally blown away" by the performance.

Michael is the only performer I know of who has ever lost a gig because
he was too good. :) (Ask him about it.) :)

In 2001, 2002, and 2003, we give Michael the title of DLV Entertainer
Of The Year, twice by acclamation and once by popular vote.

Michael is sometimes described as "Patti LaBelle Meets Nathan Lane"

Please note that the DLV logo items are produced and sold by an
independent vendor. DLV receives no income from logo shop sales. Any
difficulties or disputes must be settled directly with the vendor.

One other note, be sure to check sizing on the particular item you
intend to buy. Sizing varies item to item and seems to run on the small
side of things for some items.

Dress - general information:

Last year's feedback indicated that our people wanted more detailed
dress information and suggestions, both general and specific, sooner
in the process.

Most mailings from now until DLV will contain something along the line
of dress, either general, or very specific.

We'll include such things as wardrobe planning tips, packing tips,
timesaving tips, what to bring, as well as more detail on what's
appropriate to wear to what activities.

These items will be addressed primarily to those who are new to general
public exposure, but are intended to be helpful and informative to all
audiences.

This week we'll concentrate on some general dress issues and
information.

One thing to note, and it's probably best to get this out on the table
very early, is that there are no plans to slack off on our attention to
behavior, restroom, and dress issues.

Thanks to everybody's cooperation, we had a very enjoyable and totally
incident-free DLV 2004!

We want to have an incident-free DLV 2005 as well.

We've been made aware that some of the more mainline TG events are also
seeing these same issues, so we are most definitely not alone with our
attention to them. Your understanding and cooperation will be very much
appreciated by all.

Our people have a very wide range of personal dress styles, and personal
likes and dislikes.

Yes, for quite a few of our attendees, the opportunity to dress is the
primary reason for attending DLV, and, there's absolutely nothing wrong
with that.

Our activities are held in a wide variety of venues, some which will be
"safer" than the well-known t* conventions and rooms used for support
group meetings, to those which will be wide-open general public
settings.

For almost all of activities, either mode of dress (boymode or girlmode)
is perfectly fine. Any exceptions to this will be rare and very clearly
noted.

We don't have any hard and fast "dress code" for DLV, but some general
dress guidelines for the event as a whole, and specific dress
suggestions for each activity. The general guidelines are available
on the web.

This basically says that for any DLV activity you are expected to make a
conscientious attempt to dress in a presentable manner, in good taste,
and in a manner appropriate for that activity.

We have a number of casual activities, and quite a few where it's
perfectly fine to dress up a bit, or quite a bit, if you choose to
do so.

And yes, for those of you who want to put on the dog or dress in a
manner that's a bit far out, yes, there will be activities where
that is perfectly appropriate, even encouraged.

As you most likely know by now, DLV is a sequence of activities of
all types, and there's no one-style-fits-all type of outfit.

When you select an outfit for any DLV activity, consider all of the
following:

1. Your personal style, your likes and dislikes, your comfort level,
your mood at the time.

2. Your age, height, weight, body type, and fitness level.

3. The time, place, and circumstance of the activity, and what is
usual and customary to wear to such an activity.

In general, very casual to moderately dressy attire, either boymode or
girlmode, will be fine for almost all DLV activities.

Casual dress is required for some daytime general-public activities,
such as shopping and side trips.

Certain types of dress will be encouraged for some of the activities,
but there will be a lot of slack in what's acceptable in almost all
cases.

As we head down the road toward DLV, we'll be giving some specific
dress guidelines and suggestions as we feature the activities in these
mailings.

We'll also further discuss various casual and dressy looks and how they
can be created and used.

How not to dress for DLV:

First of all, if you're concerned about inadvertently dressing
improperly, don't worry, honest mistakes and oversights can always
be excused, and can be expected to happen in a group of our size. If
you're trying to dress and act appropriately, you will be fine!

Although there's no hard and fast dress code, inappropriate dress
at DLV activities is not allowed.

Costumes, obvious mixed-mode, "skag drag", incomplete outfits, and
obvious out of place outfits are only allowed for specially designated
activities.

There are a few common mistakes often made by those in the t* community
who are new to public exposure, most of which are unintentional.

1. Overdressing, meaning wearing an outfit that is conspicuously more
dressy than what's usual and customary. This is very common in the t*
community. Those who are overdressed in Las Vegas will most certainly
stand out and attract unwanted attention, particularly during the
daytime.

2. Dressing one generation behind. Many of our community seem to like to
dress in the styles that were popular during their teenage years. This
might work for a retro party, but for general public, no.

3. Dressing one generation ahead. Someone in her 40's looks grossly out
of place dressing as a teenager.

4. Not considering size, height, weight, and fitness level in selecting
an outfit.

5. Being TOO natural! Unless you are youthful and have no facial hair
and flawless skin, yes you need at least SOME makeup. Likewise, the
average male body does need at least *SOME* padding and/or control to
assume a feminine figure.

Wardrobe planning is also a personal thing with many variations.

Some really don't plan, but just throw things into a suitcase and take
off. Others plan their outfits in excruciating detail for each activity,
using a spreadsheet, listing all accessories, etc. Still others bring
everything and anything, pushing the limits of airline baggage
allowances, even ground-shipping some items.

We will cover wardrobe planning, packing tips, and outfit selection in
some detail in future mailings.

Our activity features (see first one below) will also contain specific
dress suggestions for that particular activity.

Detailed dress suggestions for each activity will be summarized in the
Large Final Mailing which will come out shortly before DLV.

Activity highlight -- Lunch with or without Ginger:

Between now and DLV, each (most) of our mailings will feature one of
our activities in detail.

This week we feature our daily (Monday thru Friday) Lunch With (or
without) Ginger.

It's BRUNCH!

No, it's LUNCH!

Stop! You're both right! :)

Everybody has to eat, and quite a few of us do not like to eat alone.

Following our very successful Brunch/Lunch in 2003 and 2004, each
weekday during DLV 2005, Ginger will host(ess) a very informal lunch
(or brunch) for our people at the Sahara buffet at 1:00pm.

At that time they will have both breakfast and lunch selections on the
buffet, so you can have either lunch or brunch or both. :) They have a
wide selection of fresh fruits and salads as well as the usual breakfast
and lunch staples.

Ginger (or a temporary alternate host or hostess) will be at the Sahara
Buffet just before 1:00pm each weekday, and she will place a very
conspicuous "DLV" sign on a group of tables in the northwest section of
the buffet, which is the closest section to the buffet escalator, if you
are uncertain of directions up there. :)

This is very informal. No sign-up, just show up. We'll add additional
tables as necessary.

If you're new or don't know anybody present, don't worry. We encourage
you to attend and Ginger (or a temporary alternate) will act as your
surrogate "big sister" and introduce you around. Even though you may not
know anybody there, you will be among friends! (The DLV gang is a very
inclusive, congenial, and outgoing group. This is reported over and over
and over!)

You will also find that the people attending this will vary quite a bit
from day to day, depending on other activities, so this will be a great
activity at which you can get to know many of the others in a casual and
informal setting.

Just look for the DLV sign, have a seat, and eat. :)

And, if you're a bit shy about dealing with a cashier in person, I have
been told that the Sahara Buffet now has automatic payment machines
which accept either cash or credit cards.

Dress (for lunch): Just about anything from very casual to daytime
dressy, either boymode or girlmode, will be fine. No clubwear, formal
wear, fetish wear, or costumes for this activity, please. You'll be fine
in anything such as casual separates, coordinates, athletic separates,
daytime dresses, etc. Some of our people did boymode for this last year,
and changed later. You will be most welcome in either mode and will
probably see people in both modes each day.

Cost: $7.99 per person. Promotional discounts, freebees, comps,
two-fers, and similar are common. Finding these will be an exercise
for the student. :)

But wait! There's more! New for DLV 2005!

Following lunch, at about 2:00pm, Ginger (or a temporary alternate host
or hostess) will lead a casual "Walk Off Your Lunch" session. This will
be a mile or so mid-pace walk around the area outdoors, for things such
as companionship, fresh air, exercise, and fun.

Dress (for walk): Casual with comfortable shoes required, boymode or
girlmode. Heavy or tight-fitting undergarments are not recommended.
