Welcome to those who just registered or just joined this list. If you
have any questions or concerns, please let us know.

This has been recently updated. About 90% of the questions that come in
via e-mail have an answer of some detail on this list. As always, I'm
also summarizing the questions and concerns that we hear in these
mailings. See items below.

Latest numbers:

As of this morning we have a validated headcount of 121 with a few
validations still pending.

Everything is pointing to a heavy turnout again this year, and it
appears that this year we're going to have a higher percentage of
SO's than we've had in recent years.

Questions and answers:

>How do you sign up for Golf?

I'm probably going to add "How do I sign up for golf?" to the FAQ since
it seems to be asked very frequently.

In general, you sign up for golf the same way you sign up for most of
the optional activities, and that will be on the web beginning in late
March. You'll need to have a validated registration for DLV as of that
time. Details of activity sign-up will be announced here.

Details of the golf outing are being finalized as of this time and such
things as exact time, price, and payment information will be announced
shortly.

You can mention your intent to play on the DLV Golf Discussion List, but
that won't actually sign you up for it.

I'm assuming that you mean you joined the golf mailing list, since
activity sign-up won't actually begin until later this month. Joining
the golf list does not sign you up for golf automatically.

Golf details will be announced within the next few weeks.

There hasn't been much conversation on the golf mailing list because,
well, because there hasn't been much conversation lately. :) If you
have items to discuss regarding golf, just send a message in to the
golf list.

It's very much a real thing. A couple who will be attending DLV this
year will be renewing their vows and they have invited the DLV group to
attend. The ceremony will be Friday afternoon in one of the local
wedding chapels, and the reception will be combined with our planned
Friday evening happy hour and dinner.

Very few of our activities will happen in hotel settings. A detailed
final schedule, with locations, link to a map, and explicitly detailed
directions will be sent to those who have validated registrations in
what we call the Large Final Mailing shortly before DLV happens.

E-mail is not perfect. Humans are not perfect. Although it's not common,
human errors or technical errors may make it appear that we're ignoring
you. Please be assured that this is not the case.

All correspondence to DLV by e-mail should receive some kind of
response. If you send in a question or concern, it should be answered
within the next several days at most, or if it may be of interest to
others, it may be answered in the next general mailing.

If you don't get an answer, please resend.

If you all of a sudden stop receiving our regular mailings, please let
us know. You can always read the general mailings on line at:

When you register for DLV, you should receive something via e-mail very
shortly. If you do not, something is wrong and we need to take a look
and see what's going on. Likewise, when you validate a registration, you
should get something back. If you don't please let us know.

If you sign up for a roommate or a Big Sister, either on the web or by
e-mail, and don't receive anything in response, please let us know.

Lately we've been seeing mail delivery failures to people having
tgforum.com addresses and various addresses served by Verizon. We're
trying to contact the mail administrators of those domains, but so far
have not been successful.

Rooms and roommates:

For DLV 2006 again, Diane is coordinating a roommate matching effort to
help those who are seeking roommates for the purposes of saving money
and congenial companionship.

If you're interested in sharing a room, you may either sign up on the
web -- do this via the link that is sent to you when you register, just
click on the Roommate Matching button -- or send a brief e-mail to:
roommate@geekbabe.com

When you sign up for a roommate, please include the following information:

* Your name.
* Your arrival and departure dates.
* Do you have a room to share, or are you looking for space in one?
* Your approximate age (not necessary, but helpful).
* Do you smoke?
* Do you snore?
* What hours do you expect to keep?

Historically, smoking and quiet hours have been the issues that have
caused problems among roommates. We need to try to get a good match on
those two items in particular.

Two caveats and disclaimers regarding our roommate matching program:

1. This is for the purpose of congenial companionship and saving money.
If you wish something else, please seek a companion using other means.

2. Everything is in good faith, but there are no guarantees. It is
indeed possible that a roommate will fail to show, fail to pay, fail to
make reservations, or even in a worst case charge the world to the room,
leaving you stuck with the bill. Please understand that roommate
matching is at the risk of the roommates being matched and that DLV
organizers and volunteers will not be responsible if things do not
work out as you would like.
