Firefly opening night bash. Why it worked ...

>I have to agree that Firefly was absolutely perfect. Fantastic
>food & drink (their sangria was perfection) at terrific prices.

Yes, that worked rather well. As many know it was our highest
attended individual activity of all time! I'm sure it will
be very highly rated on our survey as well.

I think several factors helped out here.

One was the venue. It was unquestionably mainstream, which
our people continuously attest that they want more of. On
the other hand, it was not intimidating and our area did
provide a measure of comfort for those who are new to true
mainstream public.

Drink prices were reasonable. No gouging.

One thing which really helps with our crowd is that they
allowed ordering from the full menu, even with the size
of our group. As we know from experience, our group
detests such things as limited "party" menus and "one
size fits all" solutions.

The big factor in the success was the size of our crowd
and the crowd's attitude and enthusiasm!

That, in and of itself, is a major draw. "Nothing
attracts a crowd, like a crowd." :) That's where
everybody was, everybody knew it, and that means
that it's where everybody wanted to be!

There were a few other things, nonobvious to most of the
attendees, which really helped out. There was a great
deal of attention paid to hospitality. We had three
(3 - count 'em - 3) volunteers who were circulating
and watching for such things as people who did not
appear to be having a good time. They didn't find very
many! :)

I think it was JoAnn's idea to have the big opening
gathering on the SECOND full day, as opposed to the
first. We had quite a few arrivals on Monday, and they
did not miss the big opening mixer.

There was no cover charge. Another thing our people
detest is a charge "just to walk through the door", and
whether justified or not, fair or not, they absolutely
abhor it. QED!

We really didn't need a theme or any kind of program
or entertainment. Quality Social Time was the theme,
if there was one. The door prize gifts from The Breast
Form Store were a nice touch!

The enthusiasm of the crowd remained as we got a total
of over 1/3 of the gang to wander down to the Beauty
Bar for Karaoke and more socializing afterwards.

All in all, Monday evening of DLV 2010 was our finest
hour! Thanks again to Marisa for arranging this, and
big thanks to all who attended for making the activity
what it was! :)

I want to add that it was also easy to get to the location! We might
need to find other locations in the downtown area which is very compact,
has good parking, and is also accessible by public transportation (bus).

Firefly opening night bash. Why it worked ...

Besides the drink & food prices, the venue, the timing, and the
hospitality volunteers doing their thing, one vital component of the
event that has not been mentioned up until now, but was very important
to making this evening a standout success, was the wait staff. I mean
these people were accommodating and very helpful. No, they didn't have
to be, but I felt a sincere comfort level from them as they served us.
And friendly!

Unlike Joe's Crab Shack, where INITIALLY there was a sense of
apprehension/discomfort from our waiter(s) serving our group. I sensed
it immediately. Did anyone else sense it or was it just me?

But without a question, we need to return to the Firefly. Also, while
were on the topic of the Firefly, did any of you see the woman who
popped in towards the end as we were heading out, at least that is when
I noticed her standing by the exit, she was from Guadalajara, Mexico and
at first I thought she spoke only Spanish, but it turned out she was,
like me, bilingual. She told me she was in Las Vegas on business. When I
spoke to her she never made it clear if she had registered for DLV, or
had seen our crowd and decided to check us out. Does anyone know who I'm
talking about? Did anyone else get to talk to her? Since we were on our
way out that night I didn't get to talk to her that long, and I was
hoping to talk to her later that week but I didn't see her at any other
events during the week. I hope she was felt comfortable being there with
us......

Leanna, were you the one also speaks Spanish and was sitting at the
table with Annie and Ginger when I brought this gal over? If not, sorry
for the confusion.

Did you find out if she was part of DLV or just happened to come across
our group by chance?
