Let's see who knows Las Vegas best!!

The street leading from the Strip to the Sahara is called Called SLS
way. What do the letters stand for?

What was the Sahara' previous name?

Hooter's was the San Remo, but what was the name when it opened?

Planet Hollywood was the Aladdin, but what was the name when it opened
in 1963?

Sorry, no prizes will be awarded since I will not be at DLV this year.

No clue. :)

>What was the Sahara' previous name?

I don't believe the Sahara had a previous name. I'm sure
there was something else, different ownership, on the
property, however. IIRC, Prell and Webb (with backing of
their "associates") built the Sahara under that name in
the early 1950s.

>Hooter's was the San Remo, but what was the name when it opened?

Prior to San Remo, it was The Treasury, but it may have had
other names as well.

>Planet Hollywood was the Aladdin, but what was the name when it opened
>in 1963?

The name you probably want is Tally Ho, but I know there were
other names in there. Royal Crown or something like that and
one other one, IIRC.

I remember pics of the El Rancho in that area, with then called
Highway 91 (now Sahara) and San Francisco Street or SFS
but not SLS...but that was in the 60s?... That was from a pic
in the old Landmark Casino I stayed at in the 70s. The street
name kinda stuck in my mind.

> Where was the Holiday Casino/Showboat Casino located?

There are three (former) casinos which are frequently
confused or mistaken for one another. All had, at various
times, a riverboat motif.

> I thought it was near the Landmark but not sure of my
> memory...

One of them was across Convention Center Drive from the
Landmark and this was the Paddlewheel. This went dark
and reopened as the Debbie Reynolds, then went dark for
a long time. There were plans for a wrestling-theme
casino but that never happened. It eventually opened
as the Greek Isles, where we had our Pre-DLV thing in
2007.

The Holiday Casino was a Holiday Inn. They removed the
riverboat facade in the early 1990s and it morphed
into Harrah's as it is today.

The Showboat was a long-standing casino on Fremont St.
but somewhat southeast of the main downtown area. Its
big claim to fame was the bowling complex which was
regularly featured on televised tournaments. It changed
ownership and became the Castaways (no connection to
the former Hughes casino of that name) and was purchased
by Station and closed and demolished in the mid 2000s.
