Feedback requested:

Ladies? (Gentlemen?) we need your comments and feedback!

We are making tentative plans for an upscale dress-up
formal affair to serve as our ending bash for Diva Las
Vegas 2010. This is to happen on Friday, April 23.

Approximate timeframe for this set of activities will
be 7:00pm to 11:00pm or so.

This will require substantial planning and some up-front
costs, so it's very important that we are assured that
there is a demand for such an affair before we "pull
the trigger" and commit to it!

Please read the description below and please let us
know if this is something you WOULD or WOULD NOT like
to attend, considering all factors such as theme, food,
timing, dress code, and price point.

No, we're not asking for a commitment to attend at this
time, just a good-faith response of whether or not you
would attend this at the upcoming DLV 2010.

To enter your response, either reply to this message or
make a brief comment on the DLV Discussion Forum on
the web at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlvdisc/

What we are most interested in is a response, YES or NO,
from those already signed up to attend DLV 2010 and those
who are planning to attend.

Some of the details are not yet in place, but in general,
the evening will consist of a Happy Hour, Buffet Dinner,
social time and possible light entertainment consisting
of such things as self-produced "pity party" type acts
(whether or not the term "Pity Party" is designated for
that portion of the program), possible karaoke and/or
dancing with a deejay, and/or a brief awards presentation.

The venue is a mainstream general-public facility but the
area we would occupy is off to the side of the main bar and
dining areas.

Food: This will be a buffet dinner, multiple entrees, exact
menu to be determined but something like a meat dish, a
chicken dish, and a pasta dish with various salads, sides,
and desserts.

Cost: This will be approximately $55-$60 per person. There
will most likely be a requirement for prepayment in person
during DLV week. This will include food, incidentals, but
not alcohol. Cash bar will be available.

Dress: It's intended that the theme and the dress for this
activity be upscale, with "black tie optional" dress. For
those unfamiliar with this term, in general, this means
that dressy and formal attire is prefered, but that "smart
casual" or "business casual" is acceptable.

For women, an evening gown or long dress is suggested. A
tea-length dress, suit, a cocktail dress of appropriate
length, pantsuit, or business casual separates will be
appropriate. Things such as tank tops, tee shirts, etc.,
will not be appropriate. Costumes, slutty/fetish outfits,
etc., likewise, will not be appropriate. For men, jacket
and tie is suggested, but business casual will be acceptable.

As we said, we are mostly interested in a YES/NO response
on this question, but comments are welcome. All comments
received may be forwarded to the DLV Discussion Forum unless
stated otherwise. Any alternative suggestions received will
be held until we have a solid yes/no on this activity.

Please consider all factors, including cost, when you make
your yes/no response. Any questions, concerns, clarifications,
etc., please respond to this mailing and ask.

Thanks.

Big Fun Party (expensive?) on Friday night

Postby External Poster » Sat Jan 16, 2010 9:44 pm

re: final big bash friday:

yes, I personally would love to attend this and find the price (over $50
but under $100) in my range; it sounds like immense fun and a great way
to top off the week

however, I believe that many of my friends would find this out of their
range or find the buffet style not the kind of dinner they are
interested in paying that price for ( ie 2 types, those who would rather
spend more money and have more service and those who cannot afford this
event regardless of contents )

i think you may find that this event would be attended by those who are
willing and able to spend this money for this event, but that actually
some other kind of "pity party" would be held either with or without
formal organization simultaneously to the big bash for those who could
not afford it.

I have to abstain from this one. I have never been in town for Friday
or Saturday activities, so it would be inappropriate for me to vote on
something during that time slot.

I applaud your effort to propose a final gathering that would be
memorable, you obliviously cannot please every individual. Your proposed
cost is a bit high, but I think it would be worth it. I say YES.

I have to abstain from a vote here as I likely won't be there Friday
evening but I must add that I think Sarona has a point, $60+ is way too
much for a buffet, especially at a local hall which is a long way from
the Vegas strip. Sorry but if I were new to DLV this would not entice me
to attend, whereas a Limo trip or the kick of bash likely would tweak my
interest.

Katie.

I_ Do not see an issue with the cost of the food and meeting
hall rental for our last night ending bash at the I.A.C.._ I attended
Amy's Halloween party last fall and the the cost to attend the party_at
the I.A.C._ I feel was reasonable and well worth_it. _ Vivian Wells_

I guess I have a thought that is going a bit against the grain.

If it's not broken, why fix it? Last year's ending event at Bahama
Breeze was perfection in my mind. The layout of the room, the service
(unbelievable) and of course the food and beverages were very good as
well.

So what's the difference between what is being suggested and what we
experienced last year? Sounds like long dresses to me. Is that worth
changing things up, spending more money and likely having lesser of a
meal? To me it isn't.

Just food for thought.

Sara
