The words from all of the Medical professionals I know are just treat
it like any other flu, it isn't really any worst or any more
contagious that any other flu.

My humble 0.02 worth.

Any Swine Flu news out of Vegas? If I wear a surgical mask on the
airplane will I be a suspected terrorist? Can the cable news channels
get any more hysterical in their coverage?

But seriously, the number of people from all over descending on Vegas
daily makes me a bit worried...

> Any Swine Flu news out of Vegas?

As of this morning, there were two cases in the LV area sent
for further tests to determine if it's indeed the real Swine
Flu<tm>.

>If I wear a surgical mask on the airplane will I be a
>suspected terrorist?

No, I see this occasionally when I fly, and I'm considering it
for my flight next week.

>Can the cable news channels get any more hysterical in their
>coverage?

Yes! My yes! They love to sensationalize anything they can.

>But seriously, the number of people from all over descending
>on Vegas daily makes me a bit worried...

If you want an excuse to skip DLV, you've got it. However, if
you use common sense, consider others, and practice good
hygiene, you should be OK.

We're adding a note in the Large Final Mailing asking anyone
who has flu-like symptoms to please not attend.

If you do get to Las Vegas and start feeling sick, get yourself
to a local Quack-In-A-Box clinic right at the onset of symptoms
and have the quick swab up the nose flu test. It won't identify
the strain, but it will tell you if you have a type of flu, or
a plain-jane URI. If it truly is flu, including the dreaded
Swine Flu<tm>, they can give you a prescription for one of a
few antiviral medications to quicken your recovery.

Otherwise, relax, if you cough, cover it, and enjoy DLV! :)

Actually, it would be helpful if someone who lives in Vegas could post a
few addresses and phone numbers of clinics around the city to be
included in the Large Final Mailing. (Not just for flu, but in case of
other emergency medical needs as well.)

According to the Doctor on the NBC Today Show this morning, wearing a
mask does little good as the virus is small enough to past right thru
the mask. Her suggestion was to carry desinfecting wipes and hand lotion
to wipe your hands often along with the surfaces around you and be sure
to share with those around you.

They had a guest on one of the local talk shows who made a lot of sense,
did not sensationalize things, and pointed out some important numbers.

As of this morning, the number of suspected cases in the US is
200-something. This means that it affects less than 1 in a million
individuals, or less than 1/10000 (.0001) of 1% of the population.

He suggested that people not change any plans, but take this as an
opportunity to be aware of how contagious diseases spread and take steps
to prevent this and other diseases from spreading any more.

Well, it was a matter of time...

Hawaii is a tourist location, today it was announced
that we have 3 confirmed cases, all are isolate, recovering,
all contacts with these people have been notified and examined.

The basics to help prevent getting it... avoid people who are
coughing, and washing your hands frequently, and not touching
your face too much.

Yeah right, esp in a casino slots and video poker... I can't
see wiping each machine I touch, walking into elevators
and walk ways that someone has coughed, touching the
same buttons to get to my the hotel floor... wiping door
handles... and the best, sitting in a plane seat infront or
next to someone coughing through the whole flight.

The seasonal flu kills some 3600 people a year. To date swine flu has
killed 2 and made hundreds more miserable. Be safe be cautious but don't
freakout. Take care all and see you in a few days. :)
