Hi,

Please publicize this Taxi among the girls that are coming to DLV.

In some cases, taxis from various locations in Las Vegas will take you
the "long way around" to get to your destination. As economic conditions
decline in Las Vegas, questionable behaviours become more prevalent.
Most frequent longhauls are taking the "Tunnel" from the airport to
South Strip hotels such as MGM, NYNY, Excalibur, Tropicana, Mandalay
Bay, etc.

Please print out this form, and have it with you.

If you feel you have been or are being longhauled,
Record the taxi company name and cab number
Record the drivers name and permit number,
Record the date and time,
Record the pickup location & dropoff destination,
Record the fare (obtain a receipt if possible).

Fill out the form and submit it to the NV State Taxi Authority. They
are physically located on Sahara between Maryland Parkway and Eastern
Avenue.

If you mail or fax it in, it must be notarized. It won't help you get
your money back, but it will help to correct bad behaviour.

Cabbies can be fined as much as $200 for longhauling passengers.
http://taxi.state.nv.us/Forms/LongRouteForm_Interactive.pdf.

BTW, Nevada Revised Statutes, now requires the use of seat belts in
cabs. NRS 484.6415 Use of safety belts within taxicabs. Any passenger
18 years of age or older who rides in the front or back seat of any
taxicab on any highway, road or street in this State shall wear a safety
belt if one is available for his seating position, except that this
subsection does not apply:....

Taxi fares:

Initial drop: 3.30 (plus 1.80 airport surcharge if the fare originates
at McCarran IAP) Per mile 2.40 per each additional 1/12 mile .20 Waiting
or slow traffic (less than 8-12 mph) .20 per 24 seconds

This page has a table of approximate minimum fares from McCarran to
various hotels & destinations:

When in LV I highly recommend using one of the many shuttle services
to get to and from the airport. I've found the drivers to be very
friendly and accomodating. It only costs a few dollars and be sure to
leave a tip.

Or you could do as I like to do. I use the city bus. All the best,
a.j. Here in of eating breakfast out.

Vegas cabbies longhauling visitors - Avoiding the Tunnel

When you get in the cab, watch the street signs and make sure you are
going in the direction of "Swenson Street" and "Tropicana". This should
keep the cab out of the tunnel.

Act like you know what you are doing, tell the cabbie you want to go via
Swenson Street. (But, don't complain if you end up in a lot of traffic.
Shorter distance but can become croweded at times.)
