Hi there Annie,

You don't know me, but my name is Gina and I'm coming to Diva Las
Vegas for my second straight year, and I can't wait. Last year
was one the best times I ever had! I was reading the mainstream
hotel posts over at the discussion forum and ran across your post
about the Tropicana...

>>"I'm also considering the tropicana and wonder how it
>>compares to the flamingo?

>Word on the street is that the Tropicana is in
>trouble, had some issues making payroll once lately.
>They have Big Plans for that property, but apparently
>things are not going well now.

My friend and I are working on getting a group deal at the
Tropicana for some of the girls in our little group. We
haven't signed the agreement yet, but we are close. Help!
Do you have any other info concerning the Trop? Are we
making a mistake in staying there?

I really appreciate any information you can shine on this!
Thanx soooo much for your time!

Take care,

Gina Mylano

I don't have any insider information. What I know I have
picked up on the net, mainly from openvegas.com and Usenet.

Here's a summary of what I know from the recent past:

1. There are big renovation plans for the Tropicana, however
some say that the plans have apparently stalled.

2. Multiple reports of deferred or neglected maintenance,
such as rooms looking threadbare, ice machines not working,
things like that.

3. Multiple reports that the buffet has taken a turn for the
worse.

4. Report that they had an issue making payroll once within
the past month.

Because of 2 and 4, I would be very cautious in booking with
them until there's a clear indication of where they are going.

I would be very careful to avoid paing for your rooms in advance
so if there are any real problems, all you would be out would be
your deposit for a worst case.

Although it's very unlikely that it will happen again, there is a
case a few years back where one hotel (Vacation Village) became
insolvent and closed abruptly, leaving guests out on the street,
literally.

I would suggest that you consider changing your plans to stay
at one of our suggested hotels.

As of February *last year* I can vouch for the buffet. It was not eatable.

If you don't mind staying at a aged hotel that smells like an
Andy Gump Pot-A-Potty in one wing and a trash dumpster in the
towers, then the Tropicana is a place for you.

I have stayed there twice with a company that put us up there
and I transfered to HOOTERS both times after one day at the
Tropicana. Staff is rude and they tend to forget what you actually
booked and try to give you something less than what you paid
for and will argue the point.

Ok, I guess I'll admit to having the breakfast buffet at the
IP recently ...

The Imperial Palace Buffet will never win any culinary awards!

The advantage is that it's there, now, fast, and cheap.

I would say that the quality is about the same as the Sahara
buffet, but with a smaller selection.

It's very "OK", but without the Charles Atlas Seal Of Approval.
If you're there, in a hurry, and don't want to spend a lot,
that's what it's good for.

Agreed Dens, It stinks. and that goes for lunch too.
It's also remeniscent of a cattle pen in there too.

If you eat at the IP you might need an IV!....

Try the Orleans it's reasonable and spacious and the
wide variety of food is terrif'. And an accompanying
bottle of california wine at the supper buff' is only
$6.

The price is right. I like Silverton and Bellagio, but they're a
little more spendy, especially Bellagio.
