Sahara renovations and rates

I received an e-mail today from the Sahara trumpeting their recent
renovations, so I figured they must have also raised their rates.
Looking at their website the rooms for DLV week April 20th are at
least $20 per night more than they were last year.

Has anyone been there very recently and is it really renovated? I liked
the Sahara because it was the nicest of the cheap dumps on the Strip.
It's sad to see all the Strip hotels pricing out the budget traveler
to chase the high-roller crowd.

Any thoughts from anyone?

I have reservations there for about week on November 12th. Go there
every year about this time. Used to be the week that Comdex (computer
show) was there. Also Tri-Ess is having their Holiday En Femme et
together on November 14th.

Attended DLV 2007, just before the Sahara was sold. Didn't know they
were renovating already. Need to check out the improvements. Will give
you an update. Prices still reasonable week of November 12th.

Any local girls involved with the Holiday en Femme? Any pre-HEF events
going on before HEF begins?

This topic is a perpetual theme on the various Las
Vegas boards. Some blame the "corporatization" of Las
Vegas, some blame Harrah's for everything, some insist
that they are pricing to lock out the low-roller.

The truth is, it's Economics 101, law of supply and
demand. Willing buyer and willing seller meet at the
price point. QED!

There are a few factors which have been causing room
rates to creep upward over the past few years.

One big thing is demand. Occupancy rate in Las Vegas
is high and this pushes the prices upward.

For the Sahara in particular, there has been a
reduction of lower-end rooms on the North Strip, and
that's caused the Sahara and the Riviera prices to
rise and to some extent the Stratosphere. Again,
supply and demand.

80-ish will probably be a good price for a decent room
over DLV week in 2008. That's my guess on where the
numbers will converge.

The same thing seems to be happening at the Palace Station. I've been staying
there for years and getting Great rates. The rates are still good, but since
they did their much needed renovation the prices are up there as well.

It's looking like the condo and timeshare options are becoming a more viable
option all the time.
