I have read the list of Hotels listed and think they are all good
choices. However, i was wondering about hotels like NYNY, The Bellagio
(since we do go there for a buffet). I know the Bellago is expensive,
but outside of that is it a good place for transgenders to stay?

Also, have some perks at TI, and since it changed from family to regular
(i guess is the way i would state that) is it now Transgender friendly.

Just interested in those who attend Las Vegas and go out dressed think
about these and other hotels for the week of DLV.

Thanks for any information.

We've had people stay at both the Bellagio and NYNY. No problems. One
night bartender at the Bellagio is particularly popular with our gang.

History has shown that if you pay your bill, don't trash the place,
and act like a lady or gentleman, whichever you prefer at the time,
you will be fine.

Although we have had people stay at TI, in 2003 we had a very ugly
restroom incident there, probably the worst in our history. Although I
think a couple of our people misbehaved and brought this on, it was
somebody else who got the nasty end of the stick. :( Some of our people
shy away from TI for this reason.

However, I think that if you behave yourself you should be fine there.

How about the Stratosphere Tower. Is that friendly?

We've had people stay there over the years. Only complaint I remember
hearing is of slow elevators.

I visited the Stratosphere previously with good acceptance. It has
especially good rates this year and several people I know are staying
there. I am too. The Sahara is another good budget choice, but the HVAC
system in their older tower is a two pipe system which either heats or
cools, but room occupants have no choice of which. I almost froze there
in 2003. Business must be pretty good this year because they wouldn't
give me a decent rate on the newer towers with fully controllable HVAC.

I've heard that there is a restaurant at the top of the tower and that
it rotates around for views of Vegas. If it is has there been any Diva
events there over the years?

Year after year we have questions of whether a hotel or restaurant is
'friendly' or not. Living here all the years that I have and seeing all
the things I have over those years I think it's very safe for me to say
that all of the places in town can be considered friendly..... within
reason of course. No one will kick you out of their establishment if
they read you so long as you are not orchestrating some sort of
commotion. Believe me, an obvious guy in a dress is way down the list
of things they see on a daily basis.

Bathroom issues in these places is another issue. If you are totally
passable then of course you probably won't have any problems using the
ladies room when needed but as we all know our group is not totally
passable. It is not an insult to you if you are stopped by someone from
using the ladies room if you are spotted, it is more likely it is a
protection for the other guests using that facility. How is the
security staff supposed to know in that split second if you are a
serious transgendered person or some pervert out for a cheap thrill?
Without checking with the organizers first I would assume that they
pre-arrange or ask permission for the group regarding restroom
facilities at the smaller restaurants for example, casinos are a
different story. I did when I organized Carluccio's and since we don't
go there anymore I will now say that the arrangements for the back room
bathroom was the only way we got in there. This is why there was so
much of a problem for me hen that one group sat at the bar, didn't eat
with the group, and insisted on using the main bathroom even after I
asked them to use the assigned one. I don't look at this as a slur on
who we are, I understand the need to provide a comfortable environment
for their other patrons. This is also why we are reminded in emails
that we need to do what's best for the group overall regarding dress
guidelines. All it takes is one person to draw negative attention to
the group and that's not fair.

I think it is our consideration of each other that is paramount and not
an establishment's consideration of us as a group. If we police
ourselves it will result in an incident-free good time for all. The
places we go to are happy to have our business and I don't believe they
are on guard looking for an altercation unless we provide the means. I
know this may spark a few comments about why should we be singled out
etc. but let's face it, we are a standout as a group and it has always
been my feeling to err on the side of caution when I am out whether
alone or with some friends.

If you use your head you'll have no problem doing whatever you want to
do.

I have stayed at the Sahara for all DLV years from 2000 thru 2006, plus
a couple of times in LV on business. I've always booked the lowest cost
"standard" room and ignored the come-on of the extra $$$ for the newer
Tangiers Tower. (Or as Tony calls it, the Tangerine Tower.) :)

Twice I've ended up in the Tunis Tower (or as Tony calls it, the Tuna
Tower) and once in the Alexandria Tower (which was a very nice room,
IMAO), but all other times I've ended up in the new(er) Tangiers
Tower by the luck of the draw.

Word on the street is that if you request non-smoking on your
reservation you will have a better chance of getting the Tangiers
Tower at the lower rate.
