The 30/130 rule (was Re: hotel security, etc.)

>For this not with it person-- "what is the 30/130 rule?"

It refers to a rule of thumb that if you are "over 30" or "over 130"
you should not wear certain items of clothing that are mainly worn
by those who are fortunate enough to be under both.

I forget where I first heard that, but it was years ago.

Now just watch. Somebody's gonna chime in saying "I'm 47 years old
and weigh 190 and I wear miniskirts and string bikinis and nobody
gives me strange looks!" :) :) Yeah, right! :) {ducking, running}

The 30/130 rule can't possibly apply to me. "I'm 47 years old and weigh
190 and I wear mini skirts and string bikinis and nobody gives me
strange looks!" Really I am 52, don't own a bikini, gave up mini skirts
a year ago, weigh a trim 135. Actually, I am a trim 175, but if I can
lie about my weight, I can understand why someone would think they could
wear a string bikini in the above senerio.

How depressing it is to hear 47 as an example, and to realize how close
I'm getting.

It's not a "wetland", it's a swamp.

It's not a "rain forest", it's a jungle.

It's not a "tsunami", it's a tidal wave.

...and we speak English in the US.

It's so nice not to be the oldest person at an event!

Hi Kathy.

Break out the 45's from the 50's it sounds like we
have enough to have a 50's retro night on the schedule
for next year.

Huggs Kate.

>What is closed in Death Valley?

Two of the more scenic places we planned to visit, Zabriskie Point and
Artist Drive.

The roads to these were damaged last year by some very significant
flooding.

Officially, these are supposed to reopen "sometime in April", but the
guy I spoke to said off the record that this was doubtful.

Also closed is route 190 from Furnace Creek eastward. This was to be our
route back. With 190 closed we would have to backtrack or go back via
Beatty, which would add 2+ hours to the trip. That would put the turnout
for our evening activities at risk.

Since we need to firm up our schedule, I figure it was best to postpone
until these will definitely open and substitute another very scenic trip
in its place.

The "Morning Report" will always give current road conditions:

http://www.nps.gov/deva/Morning.pdf

As of today, in addition to those above, the following are closed:

Hunter Mountain Road
Mahogany Flat
Saline Valley North Pass
Titus Canyon Road

The West Side Road, a favorite of 4wd people, is open.
