Group Hotels.

I agree with Densie, The idea of a common hotel/Casino will possibly
cause a whole bunch of new problems as our numbers are steadily
increasing.

So in the interests of the group as a whole we might think of looking
into designating one of them such as The San Remo for example as a
general low key spot for the girls who don't know Vegas very well and
are hoping to find the rest of the DLV group in a strange town without
too much trouble. With a word of caution not to expect a 5 star Hotel.
Negotiating the Hotel interior and driving in and out of there is an
easy task compared to traffic jammed strip Hotels and it's always quiet
there.

I'm not a big fan of the S/R although I have snoozed there between DLV
boozing sessions now but it is a relatively trouble free place for
stangers to Vegas and new girls etc' to stay. This way we don't disturb
the unique DLV experience of choosing our own accomodations and we still
have an easy place to meet before events with good parking etc'.

Just an observation, What think you ladies?

Another advantage toy the S-R is the monorail is just accross the street
at the MGM. That give easy access to and from that area, as well as
others onthe line. (That is if they get it running by next year) ;))

It appears to be that our (out of town) people have 3 different wants
and attitudes toward hotels:

1. Some want to be close or very close to the others. Lots of talk ever
since 1998 about designating one and only one hotel. Even some talk
about getting on the same floor or reserving an entire floor for DLV.

2. Some who appear to want distance, perhaps to fly under the radar with
a bit more ease. These are the ones who book hotels off Strip or
waaaayyy off Strip and aren't vocal about where they're staying.

3. Those for whom the closeness of other DLV people is a non-issue. They
have their favorite hotel or want to select one using factors other than
who else is staying there.

The first group is the only one who really wants to see our group
concentrated.

I agree that expressing (unofficially) a central hotel or hotels (such
as the SR) would be good for those new to being out at a vacation or in
general.

This would be good for meeting others (lunch etc) as well as possible
car pooling needs.

I stayed at the SR last year w/o any problems. Same is true for the IP
where I stayed this year.

I was disappointed when I learned the monorail was not operational
during our stay since it will be convenient to several strip hotels. I'd
like to expand on Jamie's comment and suggest the hotel list be updated
to include monorail information.

The North end of the route starts at the Sahara which has a new
pedestrian bridge over Paradise Rd. connecting the casino to the
station. The south end of the route terminates at the MGM station.

This year I experimented and felt totally safe riding the bus on the
strip, but it was excruciatingly slow. Riding the monorail should be
inexpensive, safe, easy, fast, and solve many of the transportation
problems involved in getting to a strip hotel or nearby venue for our
group which might also be a consideration in activity planning. The
monorail is scheduled to operate from 8:00 a.m. to midnight with 6:00
a.m. to 2:00 a.m. under consideration. Travel time from the Sahara
Station to the MGM Station will be as little as 14 minutes according to
their web site..

I think there is a call to have a single core hotel AND for the other
hotels that are recommended to be relatively close.

IMHO, it is the first timers, either to Las Vegas (there must be some)
or to DLV (50%) of the group? That would prefer to be co located with
each other or at least within a reasonable walk.

I also think that such a hotel needs to:
- Be reasonably priced
- Be of reasonable quality
- Have a Coffee shop
- Have a bar
- Be accessible

Both Sahara and San Remo probably fill these criteria although I know
there are strong objectors about the quality aspect associated with
both. I would tend to go with San Remo (REMEMBERING, that I wouldn't
stay there anyway as I usually use a Timeshare / apartment) as it also
has become the meeting point for most car based activities (NSD,
Shopping, Boat Trip, Rhyolite, etc, etc)

In proximity are a number of other options that may suit others:

- Lower priced traditional Casinos like Boardwalk
- Moderate priced Casino Hotels like Trop and Excalibar
- Higher Priced hotels such as NYNY, Luxor, MGM
- Luxury hotels like Mandalay Bay / 4 Seasons
- Apartment Style like Hawthorn Suites

Most if not all are with certainly a ten minute walk and probably less
for many.

The same can not be said for Sahara's locations. Amongst many other
issues I have with Sahara is that its pretty much a long walk to
anywhere of significance, except it is VERY convenient to the LVCC.

The Imperial Palace is probably also a go option, but having not stayed
there I can comment on price or quality with any certainty. Seems like
those that do stay there seem to enjoy it. It has a mixture of high and
medium priced neighbours, has at least four time share resorts with in
close proximity (Summer Bay, Flamingo Hilton one, Jockey Club, Polo Club
and Carriage House, although the latter two are a bit of a walk).

Perhaps access to / from there is an issue though for cars / pickup but
it does have the new mono rail station, which can get you to either end
of the strip reasonably conveniently, if not necessarily cheaply at this
stage.

I agree that we shouldn't all (have to) stay at the same hotel but
having a cluster of possible options is a reasonable alternative.

As for special rates etc, I think this is a scarlett whale (a giant
version of the red herring!) and really is a diversion from what we
should be looking at. OTOH if some one can negotiate a good rate without
making commitments etc, then go for it.

As a side issue I noticed that Aiko and Yvonne used Hawthorn Suites and
Jamie, Tootsie and ????? used a timeshare apartment. Both groups were
very positive about the experience. In my experience both in and out of
Las Vegas, when playing dress up as a girl, the apartment style places
offer better facilities, more privacy and are much more comfortable.
Time share suites and Hawthorn suites appeared to be on par as far as
quality, facilities were concerned. Parking, access and walking distance
from car to room are relatively short and the general areas seem to
usually be deserted.
