Suggested activities for DLV2017

Postby Bev » Wed Feb 01, 2017 10:52 pm

Here are a few suggested activities for this year's event. Let's see if there is any interest in these and if anyone would be willing to host them.
Mini golf... Kiss miniature golf has been kicked around for several years. This could be a daytime activity or evening before or after dinner. Your thoughts?
Escape Room.. a new rage sweeping the country. Your group is locked in a room and have one hour to solve the riddle following clues to escape. Can you do it or will you 'die'? Has anyone done one of these? Your feedback is requested. Daytime or nighttime?
Take a hike. We've done one in Red Rock Canyon. I'm sure there are many more places to explore. This is a great morning activity for those willing to get up before noon. Let us know if this is for you.
Do you have other suggestions? Let us know. We won't hold you to them... well, maybe just a little.

There's that outdoor go-car race track if it's still in operation for
the less daring of us who don't wish to drive a real race car.

How about a ride on the New York, New York roller coaster before someone
decides to shut it down.

I'm in! This sounds like fun. :)

LOL, since it's inside, probably does not matter but I would think that this would be a good one for the afternoon.

We've had groups of our people do this a number of times in the past. I haven't heard of anyone wanting to shut it down.

About the roller coaster, I mentioned before someone tries to shut it
down only because that's the fate of some casino roller coasters. I
think we shuld do it again and have some person who's too scared to ride
to take photos. I've never seen photos of this event posted on the Diva
web site.

Ok, I thought maybe you heard some specific rumblings to that effect.

IIRC there are some good open timeslots on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoon. I'll copy this thread over to ORG and we can look at scheduling over there.

You are most likely correct. I looked, and the closest I could quickly find was this one I took of a couple of our people waiting on line for the coaster back in 1999.

As I think more of it, this would be one of the more tricky activities to get good photos of, at least of our people riding. Those riding will be holding on, screaming, holding on to hair and such and not taking photos. I don't know of any good vantage points off hand which would be good for taking photos of people riding it, but let me do some looking around the next time I am in that vicinity.

Go to parking structure highest level. Stand just to left of the suicide fence. You can see the whites of there eyes as they come down the hill.

The escape room sounds like an event that would be fun in the evening after HH !Would this be in someones room or can it work at a bar/lounge being virtually locked in?
I'm thinking of a Audrey/Marlynn tour that would end with a breakfast at Tiffany's(Forum shops) photo op and reverse HH at Trevi.

Suggested activities for DLV2017

Postby External Poster » Mon Feb 06, 2017 4:30 am

This posting is from: Eileen
----------

I've had some unpleasant experiences on roller coasters, none of them
en-femme. The closest of them to Las Vegas would be in Primm. The line
goes all the way up multiple staircases. In my experiences none of their
signs made any mention of not being able to ride with my prescription
glasses on (and I wore the ugly strap on the back to keep them
attached).

The ride operator didn't even mention it until after lowering and
locking the ride bar, imprisoning me temporarily on the ride. He refused
to release me from the ride nor to release the ride onto its run for a
one-on-one 25 minute standoff. He mostly gave himself a break and left
me there.

When he let me leave (without riding) I'm too blind to ride without my
glasses. Security took another 90 minutes to verify that I did not ride
before arranging the refund of my ride fee. I offer this precautionary
tale in the hopes that good advance work will be done so that others
will not experience anything close to what I did, when they are supposed
to be having fun.

Eileen
