Interesting how my simple post about internet fees and/or resort fees went south a bit. But it was fun to read.

My update:

1. I have my room booked now at an off-strip hotel, although it is a national chain and they will not let me rent rooms by the hour (darn).
2. I am fully informed as to the fees that might be charged at my hotel if I'm not careful. (I did drink a bottle of water out of a mini-bar one time at the Flamingo and then tried to replace it with a cheaper bottle from a 7-11... but they caught it and charged me anyway - lol).
3. I'm such a cheapskate I do know where I can park for free at most of the casinos should they start charging for parking. I know this, not because they were charging for parking, but sometimes the garages got full and street parking was either closer or more available.
4. I have been going to Vegas for 50 years and have experienced the (awful) de-evolution from the free-wheeling days when I got my rooms, meals and transportation free. But there are still bargains to be had if you look.
5. I do understand the discussion about odds I've seen here... it is a discussion that has been going on for as long as I can remember. Personally, I love craps - not for the odds, but because it's an exciting game... although I used to have a facility for counting in Blackjack before age killed off some of my brain cells.
6. I wouldn't touch a slot machine any more than I would kiss an ebola patient.

Internet fees at the Four Queens

Resort locations are now going with Resort Fees that are added to the
bill. Add the excise tax, and Add the cost of the nightly room rate.
They have been doing that for years in other resort states. Get used to
seeing it, and most will not show it or will show it under fees and tax
bracket in the total cost of the room per night. Consider it a cost for
your vacation, similar to the fee for the luggage weight. Many places
just shows the room cost, and "plus fees and tax not included in price".
Yes its their way of you paying more to what they want from you per
night. They know you need to stay someplace.

So you should expect the rooms to be very clean or have them clean it.
Make sure you have new sheets, or towels, coffee for the coffee maker,
blow dryer, extra toilet paper, if not call them on it. You are paying
for it.

Oh better be sure its clean of bedbugs too. For that matter any kinda
bug including roaches.

Parking is a no-brainer fee. Limited land and parking lots, and another
way of getting your money. One has a car, so parking is needed and more
incoming money. So if the car gets broken into, they are not liable, but
you still pay.

Un-listed drink prices dependent on the person getting the drink in
bars. You folks already had issues with this.

You might see pay for public restroom usage too.

Gambling is based on your tolerance on how much you are willing to lose
to do this form of entertainment Winning is gravy, IF you are lucky to
win. For slots, the higher the minimum bet over a $1 the easier odds so
a $50 min bet is easier to win than a 25 cent bet. But either way, its
to lose your money. The odds to win are harder for anything a $1 or
less, the worst is the 1ct machines, and they usually have options to
play more than just 1 cent. These are the set guideline to slot odds,
Best odds from a math view appears to be craps, but still the most
common combination is 7 and 11 where the house wins. When using multiple
deck of cards tables, odd are more for the house than the player, when
playing 3 or more deck of cards at one time.

I really do appreciate the warnings about bedbugs, dirty sheets and towels, etc. But please note that I am staying at a national chain and not a local hooker hangout. Also, I've been staying in this town longer than most of you have been alive - half of my players club cards are for places that long ago were blown to smithereens.

So please everyone, your advice is noted... but I really don't need any more of it. Trust me, I am fully grown up by now and am ready for what may come.

Although, it looks as if some of you post without bothering to read all the comments on a thread - so I may have to resign myself to reading the same warnings many more times (lol).

One way to deal with Bed BUGS:

Baby powder on the sheets and Lysol spray on the bed spread.

Its like having a conversation -- it moves to different topics and
rarely sticks to the topic that started it.

Katie: is that the 'smell' of success and/or 'color' of a fashion
statement or style? :-)

Many things were free or complimentary. Then they took out the "r" in
free.

wifi or wireless computer access was a novelty, and now more of a
standard expected service for most if not all cellular providers like
Verizon, ATT, Sprint, etc. Only in bad signal areas, (no cell towers
nearby) there is a need for that secondary hard wired/building wall port
connection, or a wifi internet device, ie if your room is encased in
thick reinforced steel and concrete. The hotels adds this service fee
used or not so it can maintain the devices that allows this service. Why
not add it to the cost of the room? To keep their base 'rack' room price
competitive or within range of what other equivalent hotels/casinos in
their area charge.

A fee is a fee no matter how its called or different hotels categorize
that same fee many different ways, its still a added cost, that part
doesn't change.
