There is the restored original UP depot in Kelso, which is not that bad a drive from LV. This could be paired with a lunch at the Mad Greek in Baker.

It's interesting that there is so much of a cross-over between the railfan community and the TG community! :)

Vera,

Re: Roller Derby - can we all do our spandex K.C. Carr imitations ?

Re: Valley of Fire - it's excellent, I go most years (solo, in the
past). I always found the old movie site interesting, mostly because
it's still there, I suppose. It's an easy walk. The ride back can be via
the Lake Meade side, which is nice, add Hoover and you have a full day
trip.

Re: Western Store: I'm not familiar with it, but Shepler's also has a
pretty nice store out at Sam's Town, and there are obviously other
things to do there, and could be scheduled earlier in the day to avoid
conflicts. Could also do it as a double.

Re: The pool - I kinda like the idea, although going to a mega-pool may
scare some off.

I've enjoyed doing the Petroglyphs outside Vegas, and combined it with a
ride out the Blue Diamond highway. There is a desert plants sale place
near where Blue Diamond joins 160, as I recall. It's kinds kitschy, but
I liked it. If I remember right, I think there are some great views of
Vegas returning via 160, although there weren't many places to turn off.

Model train layouts in Vegas

I found out that there is a ceiling model train display at The Egg Works
in Summerlin. Another place to visit would be Hunter Railway Systems
located on Dean Martin Drive.

Hi Robyn,

Wow....super nice layout!

I found out the name of the owner of this model train layout. Sent him
an email asking if he allows visitors. Will keep everyone posted.

Thanks Jamie but I was more interested in the real thing for a DLV day
trip.If you would like to get a group together as in *Hostessing a side
trip* , I am sure there will be others who might like to do that.

We were in Vegas in September and I visited Sams Town. Shepplers had
closed it's store there. All their stock was bought out by the western
boot place I mentioned on LV Boulevard. This is located diagonally
across the street from The South outlet mall on the North west corner
beside a gas station.

Other than the Shiloh Horse sanctuary, I think I would rather stay in
town for a girls day outing. Going out of town more than one day a week
would be too much and the driving time takes up a lot of the day.We did
a trip to Primm Valley shopping mall and a bit of a casino browsing
session a few years back which was about as far away as I wanted to go
and I think it was quite a pleasant day for the girls.

Maybe we could do a 3 casino excursion to Primm with a lunch buffet at
the buffalo bills which is quite quaint in a way with western wagons and
such outside the front entrance ( IE:-- Photos, photo's, photo.s. ( I
can hear Beverly laughing as we speak) *Ha!.

As I remember from a trip there a few years ago the flower gardens near
the pool at Primm resort were very picturesque and a rather decent photo
op too. Might be a possibility?

Katie.
