Farewell Dinner

It seems to me that the 1st DLV I attended, we had dinner at Bahama Breeze, but not in the Gazebo room. It was a big round room, not as bright and festive, but could hold around a hundred.
Just a thought.. Looking for comments from those who remember that room.

I remember the room very well. We've used it twice in our history, most recently in 2008. It's to the right of the main entrance, in the front (southeast) side of the building.

It probably will not handle 100+ comfortably. It was getting "cozy" with our 60-70-ish crowd in 2008.

What I remember more about that room was the issue that followed our use of the room in 2008.

When I arrived at the BB in 2009 (we were in the Gazebo Room that year), Nora called me aside and told me "We have a problem, they want us to use the mens room."

Apparently there were complaints in 2008 from "civilians" regarding our group's restroom usage.

I summoned the GM, and after a few rounds of hardball (short version: if they held the line on that item, we would "walk") a compromise was reached that we would have our people first use the (then open) unisex restroom if it was available.

From 2010 on, we've always had the Gazebo Room and our relationship with the BB staff has been great. Management has cited our group in their corporate-sponsored training sessions.

The issue appeared to be that when we used the right-side room, our group was very visible to the crowd in the bar, and any restroom use was glaringly obvious. When we're in the Gazebo Room, those taking a "bio break" are far less obvious.

My memory may be off but if it serves me well I only recall one room
that we have been using at the BB for our Farewell Celebration, and that
is the large room to the left of the entrance. I believe it has a
separate side entrance that goes into what might be termed the "Gazebo"
room because it looks like a gazebo with a fire pit in the middle (where
I've been known to park my behind the last couple of times I've done the
Newcomers Welcome Briefing). This room feeds into the adjacent room via
a ramp of some sort (could be a little bridge) where the bar and the
stage (where the musician sits) is located and from where Annie and
Beverly give their speeches, and where the Large Gathering photograph is
taken. I don't remember the big room on the right hand side. I do
remember the bathroom issue.

The tg accommodations law that went into effect Oct. 2011, also helped define which restroom we should use.
But if we're only getting 60-70 at the farewell dinner anyway, why not hold it someplace we know we don't have problems with separate checks, menus, type of food etc.

Please don't tell me how you don't like to use the same venue twice in one week. You go dancing at Paris every night, like it's the only place in town that has dancing.

And for the past 2 years, I have asked for a vote on BB as a farewell dinner, this year you're excuse was there was no one to host it. I volunteered to co-host and last year you added Carmines to the vote, which was not a part of the motion that was made or seconded and there also was No host for BB, which made this years excuse a moot point.

Yes, there are some good points presented here...

At the same time, the Paris evening as a closing event which is repeated
nightly may on the "face of it" seem the same as other events. But is it
when compared to other activities? The reality is this activity [Paris]
is different in nature compared to a dinner, show, shopping event, etc.
The latter has the need for variations on many levels [and not repeated
in the same week] as expressed by attendance feedback about such. We
need to understand such and respond accordingly.

So let us look at the Global Picture of activity planning as we go
forward in 2016.

Like many coordinators, I find the check-splitting annoying. However, my
thought is that it will be tough to get away from the issue unless we
move events further off-strip.

I am not a Vegas girl, so my experience is limited, but Irather expect
individual checks would be easy to come by for locations several (long)
blocks off the strip. In the immediate Strip area, I don't know how much
luck we will have. Off the strip is not normally an issue for me, but
for many attendees, it can be - wish I had a better answer........

Our group should be able to handle --per table-- check splitting....
This is real life ---Las Vegas or Fargo, North Dakota.

Let us not get unreasonable here.

Perhaps what might work in the future is that at the locations where
there is one single check for the table or for the entire group is that
each table have one person keep track of who owes what and then then
each person after dinner could square up with that person and give the
proper amount including the tip.

I know this would task one person with being the "table policeman" but
it's obvious it's not working the other way. This would easily prevent
one or several people making up the difference (and perhaps taking a
bath) for the amount due.

No, single checks for the table is not a fair way to go. Needs to be
split checks only. Some people, like myself, don't carry a lot of cash.
I have been at tables like this before where a person decides they need
to leave before the check is figured out. They might order a $20 meal
and toss down $20 to cover it and leave. They don't allow for the taxes
nor the built in tip to be added on so the others at that table get
ripped off and wind up having to pay for that persons part that they
should have paid. And some times there is a buffet charge like trevi
that no body knew about until we got our bill.
