Fifth draft schedule ...

Postby annie » Thu Oct 02, 2014 10:20 am

PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS AS THE FINAL ACCURATE SCHEDULE.

Tweaked MSI start time. This is actually a "soft start" for this activity.

Added GNO.

Question? Do we want to keep Gene and Georgetti on the schedule? I get the impression that most will be eating out at the Doubletree.

Everyone take note that it is a 2 hour trip from the Museum to the Doubletree via public transit. The last available public transport to get back to downtown locations means you have to leave the Doubletree at 10:15pm. Other than that, it's bumming a ride or taking a taxi (assuming you don't have your own vehicle).

I'm very interested to know who plans to do G&G vs Doubletree. I'm inclined to stay with G&G, but certainly don't want to be there alone.

I just checked the train schedule. There's a 6:40 out of Ogilvie which arrives at the Elmhurst station at 7:15. A taxi ride down to Oak Brook should then take 10 minutes or so. If there are no taxis at the station, a quick phone call should get one. (Uber? Lyft, anyone?) :) This would make one almost fashionably late for GNO. :)

Alternative would be a longer taxi ride from the end of the Blue Line in Forest Park.

Last train inbound from Elmhurst leaves at 11:13. Blue Line is 24x7, with frequent stops and a longer trip, of course. I'm sure the Doubletree has a shuttle, but I don't know if we could make u$e of it or not. :) I know that some shuttle drivers are bribe-able to go out of procedure. :)

If there are enough of us a shared taxi to the city should be $15 per person or so.

I'm gonna go with the flow, depending on how I feel. I'm leaning toward GNO, since I'm sure I'll know a few people there, but I am open. Doing G&G for dinner and then taxi to GNO, arriving 9-ish, may be an option.

Call ahead for a taxi, if you're planning on doing that as you can't
count on them to just be waiting around or easily hailable in the burbs.
Likewise, I'm not sure whether you can find an uber or lyft driver
easily in these areas.

Another option for the return trip could be to see if a station along
the BNSF Metra line, which may run later, would be within distance.

Most cab companies have flat rates to the airports. The Blue Line runs
all night to O'Hare. (Which would be the far nicer and safer ride
downtown than from Forest Park.) So that might be your best option,
actually.
