I'm going to make a case AGAINST expanding back to a seven day event.
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE FAMILIES...
Many of us have SO's who are in various places with respect to
acceptance but for whatever reason, our SO's choose not to attend DLV
with us. Speaking from experience, I found it much easier to expand my
attendance from 3 nights in my early DLV days to 5 nights in order to
accommodate pretty much the full slate of DLV activities including the
Welcome and Ending celebrations. My point is that getting away from the
family for a lengthy period of time is a bit easier when selling five
nights rather than six. Also, there is a lot to be said for getting back
home on a Saturday which allows for family time for the remainder of the
weekend before returning to work on Monday.
FOR THOSE OF US ON A BUDGET...
Face it, DLV can be a big financial commitment. Room rates are typically
higher on Friday & Saturday nights which can significantly add to
lodging expenses if DLV closes out on a Saturday.
FOR THOSE WHO TRAVEL BY CAR...
Especially going back to California, return traffic on a Sunday can be
just crazy if one doesn't depart Vegas rather early on Sunday.
-----------
I feel there has been a built-in perfection in how DLV has been
scheduled of late. Officially opening on Monday night and closing on
Friday. Nothing thus far has stopped volunteers from scheduling pre-DLV
activities on the Sunday before and there's nothing that says the same
cannot be done for post-DLV for the Saturday afterwards. The schedule as
it has been for the last few years has allowed for ample activities and
flexibility that seems to encourage maximum attendance. Pre & post
activities can easily be added as needed when volunteers step up,
allowing for the core Monday through Friday DLV to remain intact without
being diluted.
Just my 2-cents.
