Feedback on Newcomer Welcome and Orientation requested ...

----------

This question pertains primarily to those who first attended DLV in
2014.

We are seeking feedback on the Newcomer Welcome and Orientation session
which was held Monday afternoon of DLV week. We are most interested in
comments from those who were new for 2014 and attended the session.

On the activity evaluation portion of our recent survey, the session
scored 4.64 on the enjoyment scale and 4.84 on the comfort scale. Both
of these are considered very high ratings.

We would like a little more detail, from the perspective of new
attendees, as to how you think this session went. We would like to know
how effective it was in welcoming you and introducing you to the event
and taking care of your questions and concerns.

A few specific questions to you:

Were your questions or concerns adequately addressed and answered?

Did you find the time of the orientation session to be convenient for
your personal schedule?

Was the material presented interesting to you and relevant to your
participation in this year's event?

Were the individuals who presented the session effective in presenting
the material?

Was any information that you believed to be inaccurate presented?

Was the setting of the Orientation Session appropriate?

What other topics would you have liked to see in such a session?

Your responses to this are eagerly anticipated and appreciated! :)

Thanks.

Feedback on Newcomer Welcome and Orientation

I was really impressed with both the turnout and content of the
Orientation. I think it went a long way towards mitigating the concerns
new girls may have.

I was disappointed at what I believed to be the number of Littles
attending - to the extent I could tell, it wasn't that impressive.

Next year, I think we should emphasize that if you are looking to have a
Big Sister, you should plan on attending the Big O. I wouldn't
necessarily want to use the word compulsory, but I'd like to get close
to that - your thoughts?

> 1-Were your questions or concerns adequately addressed and answered?

Yes. I got to meet many of the new girls and those who have been to DLV
for many years. I was disappointed in not meeting many of the other
girls who has been to DLV before.

Starting time and ending time was perfect as it allowed the girls to
participate in other activities after the dinner.

> 3-Was the material presented interesting to you and relevant to your

Yes it was interesting, got to meet the organizers.

Yes

> 5-Was any information that you believed to be inaccurate presented?

None

> 6-Was the setting of the orientation Session appropriate?

The choice was excellent. Large amount of parking, access to the banquet
room allowed new girls to avoid direct exposure to the public and the
setting was private.

> 7-What other topics should you have liked to see in such a session?

None, would have taken up too much time. It was perfect how it was done
as i got to walk around to meet the other girls.

I arrived at Bahama Breeze for the start of the orientation. Since I previously attended DLV, I was directed to go to the Bar. While I enjoyed talking with the friends there, I had second thoughts about not choosing to attend the Orientation. Maybe experienced DLVrs could attend on a space available basis.

We were concerned with space and available seats, therefore we were intentionally shoo-ing returnees away from the area in order to be sure we had enough room for the newbees. It was a close to capacity group. We had over 30 and filled about every seat in the front gazebo area.

This may be an effective way to help out with the low-information situation. One thing we learned this year is that those who, for one reason or another, do not get the word on things, are not all newcomers. For the most part, the new people who attended the Orientation had their act together and had a good handle on what our program was all about and how to effectively participate.

It was a nice place, and I agree that at least me and my friend Stacy had a good idea if what the DLV was all about. We had a great time! Also where are the pics from that evening? I tried to email Laurie about the pics, but I must have messed up her email address.
