Nail shop?

I have a question?

In the years past, I have gone to A Harmony Nail Salon.

I had an appointment again this year, but Paula called and said she
would not be available to do my nails, as she had a conference to attend
out of town.

Can anybody recommend another salon? I am staying at Bally's and
thought about going to their salon, or the Paris, but they are kind of
expensive.

There is a salon across the street for where Studio Lights used to be on
Sahara, west of Las Vegas Blvd. They accept walk ins are were good.

Hi all, MissJenny the Waxinatrix here!

I saw this on my feed and checked out The Big List. I'm unable to go to
DLV this year cos of work, but wanted to check out how these places
measured up.

Under the list is the Wax Bar on Flamingo, and I like to see what my
skin care colleagues are up to, so I checked out their website. I was
tempted to leave a comment or two on the Big List. But I refrained since
technically I am a competitor, cos I am waxing Diva girls at my location
in the High Desert in the days leading up to the event.

The Wax Bar's prices are comparable to mine and they look like they are
very welcoming of folks of all genders. But I saw a couple of things
under their tips page (http://www.waxlasvegas.com/waxing-tips.php) that
made me want to cry red! Now whether any of you girls reading ever come
to me or not, I'd like to address these so that everyone reading will be
informed, safe and so that you can enjoy your wax!

I am an licensed esthetician with 22 years experience, and many Diva
girls (esp Stacy J) can vouch for my work. The following 'tips' on their
page are false or iffy at best:

Take a pain reliever an hour before waxing to temporarily reduce pain
and sensitivity. ONLY Tylenol is safe (and that's if Acetaminophen is
safe for you). NSAIDs like aspirin, ibuprofin and Motrin can cause
bruising and bleeding during a wax! And if you are on any other NSAIDs
like Celebrex, Nyproxen or anything on this list

medications in your system at least 24 hours before your wax, or maybe
waxing just isn't safe for you in delicate areas. Please consult your
physician if you are unsure.

If your hair is long it is best to trim so that the waxing is more
comfortable, if youbre unsure our technicians will trim the hair for
you, better a bit longer than too short.

Better go with the second half of that! NEVER trim before your waxing
appointment; that is the esthetician's job! If you go too short, it may
be too short to wax and the esti will either do a crummy job or send you
home. And the longer the hair, the MORE comfortable your wax will
actually be! If it's on the shorter side, your esti may have to go over
each spot multiple times in order to be able to grab everything. But if
it's longer, it'll all come up in one swipe! Doesn't that sound so much
better??

No hot tubs, hot showers/baths, sunbathing, exercise or sex, yep that's
right we said it, no sex for 24 hours post wax.

Not true. Unless you have extremely sensitive skin, are bathing in
boiling water, jogging naked through brambles or shagging with
sandpaper; you'll be just fine. Many of my clients say the
hypersensitivity adds to the fun! And in 22 years, I've never heard of
anyone having any difficulties.

I am working extended hours for Diva girls March 25th-29th. I wax out of
a private Lifestyle home conveniently located right off of the 15
freeway in Victorville.

No salon hustle-n-bustle, and many girls find it much more convenient
and comfortable to get waxed prior to Diva rather than during it. This
way, you won't miss out on any of the fun and a good waxing will 'shave'
hours off of your daily beauty routine ;)

Last year I went to the nail salon at walmart off of Tropicana, the ladies were very nice and it wasn't very expensive.

Looking for nails during DLV?
I have tried T Nails, 4110 S Maryland (369-6766) with a full set of acrylics for just $20 plus tip ($5). Nice friendly Asian girls with clean shop. I had to wait only one time during Valentine's weekend but that's understandable. This should not be a problem during DLV (April Fool's) week.

*Important Reminder*
There's something to consider when you are getting your nails done by a Salon.They apply techniques so that the nails will last for 3-4 weeks.If you are just attending DLV week and then turn back into a pumpkin, you need to think about how to remove them! This was a problem I discussed in my travel blogs.

The Salons prepare your nails using a Dremel tool to ruff up the surface, then they apply primer to make the gel adhere better. The Gel has good adhesive strength, as well, so the nails need to be removed by soaking them with polish remover & cotton balls. This is very time consuming. Cutting them off or tearing them off results in damage to the nails, a de-laminating issue. This is what my nails went through after my June 2013 trip. My nails took several months to heal.

For my October trip, I asked the Gal at T-Nails not to apply primer, do not use the Dremel tool and I also applied a clear coat of nail polish beforehand to protect the nails. Well, this was too much and the nails popped off several times during the week. It was easy to re-apply them using super-glue, though.

For DLV week, I plan to ask the Gal to not use primer and no Dremel tool but I will not apply the clear polish, beforehand. I hope this will work out OK. However, everyone's hands are different based on their oil content. My hands tend to be dry so this combination should work for me. You might need to vary this approach based on what works best for your hands.

I did that one year fro DLV and then had to go back to work where I
always had to explain to folks after their odd looks why my nails were
long and painted so beautifully. I had to tell them that I was a drag
queen and performing all week. So now, I always use Kiss Press on nails.
Probably will do it again this time around. Hey, it's inexpensive and
easy. I hate to spend lots of money on nails that are going to come off
after DLV. Now if i was going to continue living as Vera after DLV I
might consider doing my nails.
