Thanks, Gina. It's good to hear that. :) We appreciate it, and we do
realize that most people do take the time to read what DLV is all
about. Thanks for your feedback on this! :)
>I hope I get to meet you if I'm brave enough to go through with it!!
We understand that many people are unsure and nervous when first
coming to an event like this. DLV attracts a very good group of
people who are friendly and inclusive. It's almost universally
reported that the feelings of unease vanish within minutes of
meeting the group.
There are a number of things we can help with if you're feeling
unsure.
If you have any specific concerns, you can ask about them here,
or if you don't want to ask in public, write in and we'll put
you in touch, one on one, with one of our Big Sister volunteers.
If you need some personal guidance, we can match you up with a
Big Sister either before DLV and/or during DLV. Our Big Sister
Coordinator invites you to personally write her with any of
your concerns. Just e-mail: bigsister@geekbabe.com
When you get to Las Vegas, if you would feel better if you first
met one of the volunteers one on one before you go to one of the
larger gatherings, just let us know, we'll make this happen.
If you're uneasy leaving your hotel room to come to your first
DLV activity, or if you happen to get "stuck" in your vehicle
or something like that, let us know. Phone the "Big Sister
Emergency Hotline" (number will be sent out in the Large Final
Mailing) and we'll get a Big Sister to you pronto to assure
you and escort you if necessary.
We'll bend over backwards to be sure that you don't get left
out! Ask around, you'll find that we have a very good track
record with regard to helping those who are new feel
comfortable.
Hope to see you in April. Watch the soon-to-come-out mailing for
newcomer registration information. :)
