I know (LOL, not by personal experience) that the Epilady (brand) did not have the power to remove the male beard.

I might suggest Zip Wax instead of a mechanical epilator. You should be able to find this at any well-stocked drug store and if applied thick, yes, it should be able to remove any kind of thick facial hair.

Seriously, some have used a preparation called EMLA (prescription in the US, supposedly OTC in Mexico) prior to epilating with a profound reduction in pain.
As an aside, over a decade ago there was a used Epilady given away as a door prize at DLV. I lost track of who eventually ended up with it as it was passed from person to person before and after the door prize give-away, mostly amongst those from the old Pinkmyst chat group.
I've tried an Epilady twice now (on leg hair) and I must agree with those who say the Epilady was invented by the Gestapo as a means of inducing enemy prisoners to talk.
