>Paris would be great.
I do admit this is a good example of out of the box thinking!
I assume the OP was referring to Le Cabaret Lounge, where we
had the dance sessions on Thursday and Friday. I'm sure we
could use this (non-exclusively, of course) with very little
formality.
Of course there's the usual issues with having a larger
group of our people, most of whom would be dressed to the
nines, very visible in mainstream public.
>I do remember the discusion about the ending formal dinner.
>I really didn't give it much thought at the time as I'm
>really not the formal type of girl.
IMAO "prom" and "formal" are very close to being synonyms.
When you're a senior in HS, it's the "Senior Prom", and
next year when you're a freshman in college, it's the
"Spring Formal", the only major difference is that booze
is officially allowed. :) :) :) :)
As the discussion went on last winter, the term "prom" kind
of fell out of favor for various reasons, and the term
"formal" replaced it.
>We have had a couple of "prom nites" here where I live but
>I wasn't able to attend. Those events were very well attended
>from what I heard.
In Omaha we have both the Pride Prom and the Groundhog Prom,
and both get good TG participation. The Groundhog Prom is
really more of an ultimate costume party than it is a "prom"
per se.
>I always thought it would be really kewl to go through
>that whole process. From buying the prom dress to getting
>professional hair and makeup done for prom pics.
This is along the line of what appears to be the intent
of most of the various suggestions which have come in over
the years, such as this one from the 2009 survey:
+A Prom, for those of us to relive, where we had to once
+wear a suit or tux, let's now dress the way we really
+wanted to back then.
Of course the expense of a new dress, makeover, etc., is
not something everybody would look forward to. However, I
do believe that most M-F TGs do have at least one formal
outfit which would be more than appropriate.
>Maybe even be voted prom queen.
Here's where I have mixed feelings. I don't like to see
someone be designated as more worthy of attention or
recognition on some arbitrary criteria. IMAO, there is
too much of this in the TG community already! I've pushed
back a few times on such things as a "Ms DLV Pageant" for
just this reason.
If the organizers of a "DLV Prom" want to do this, I will
not try to fight it, but I don't think it's particularly
a good idea.
>I hope it comes up for consideration again for next year.
One way you can be absolutely certain it comes up for
consideration next year is to volunteer to coordiate it.
I'm dead serious here. Just say you're willing to "adopt"
it and work with the ORG group on logistics and schedule
items and such.
