So going by this logic, any bar that celebrates Halloween should
refuse entry to anyone that doesn't look like their ID, so all
werewolves and frankensteins should stay home. Every news report is
pointing out prostitution and they're using liquor license as a
legitimate and legal reason to refuse entry. This is biased any way
you slice it

Welcome back, Jo Ann! :)

Hope you can make it this year. We've missed you since 2002 if I
am correct. :)

> So going by this logic, any bar that celebrates Halloween should

This is a very good point, since particularly on Halloween,
quite a few people of all identities and persuasions will
not in any way resemble their official ID photo at all!

If you think about it, quite a few people who are out there
in mainstream America look somewhat different than their ID
photo, which can often times be 5 years old or so. Change
of hairstyle, for personal preference or change in fashion
is common, and that can be just as much of a different
look than what a part-time M-F would show.

Then there's the case of where the person has a beard and
the ID does not, or vice-versa. Quite a different look.
Airline agents and cops deal with this everyday and we
seldom hear of any cases of missed identity due to things
like this.

Oh well ... :)

The last couple times I was there, just going into the bar to drink
and such was not an option. You had to pay for the show upon entry.
Is this what we want to do?

Carding and such (was Re: Hunters)

"Risks" are taken, as there is some discretionary "non carding".>

For that answer only Hunters can provide "fact".

Hey Ginger:

Baton is okay (for a touristy drag bar), but...

While I am not intimately familiar with that particular part of town (60
miles from home!), I do have two suggestions.

For "just a bar" (?), you might want to check out Harry Carey's, (yes,
the late, great Cubs announcer) which I believe is in the general area
of the Chop House. They typically have a young, upscale clientelle and a
sporty atmosphere without too much "jockieness" (is that even a word?)
pervading the place.

For a more upbeat musical-type atmosphere, check out House of Blues,
located in Marina Towers (the two buildings on the river that resemble
corncobs) where there is almost ALWAYS something cool going on. Also a
younger crowd, and probably a bit more liberal than Harry's customers.

Just a thought.

Rock on.

The Baton Show Lounge has a 10:30 p.m. show; tickets are said to be
plentiful on Thursday night. The admission charge is $10 with a two
drink minimum per show. Drinks range from $3.50 to $19.00.

Harry Carey's is five blocks south down N Dearborne St. from the Chop
House at 33 W Kinzie St. It is near the river.

Yonder Mountain String Band with special guests Danny Barnes and Darol
Anger are appearing at 08:00 p.m. at The House of Blues. Admission
tickets are $23.00. The club is located at 329 N Dearborn St. also near
the river. The entertainment schedule doesn't seem to work for us and I
don't think there would be much interest in the band.

In the past two years we have gone to the Red Head Piano Bar, 16 W
Ontario St, Chicago, IL 60654-7581, 312-640-1000 and our reception has
been acceptable; I don't recall a cover charge and if there is one it is
minimal. I'd be inclined to go here if there is no interest in the Baton
and would probably prefer it.

I was trying to find something different. Let's hear it for your
Thursday evening bar wishes ASAP!

The schedule is ready to go final with instructions for buying tickets
to the show, the Halloween event, etc.

I'll go anywhere Thursday night. I do have a couple of Yonder Mountain
String Band's albums. I think their music is fantastic. I'd love to see
them live, but I understand that it doesn't work time-wise for the
group.

I saw Yonder Mountain String Band a few years ago and I thought they were
great. The problem is they are playing Friday night. Thursday Styx is
playing at the House of Blues. Tickets are $100 advanced and show starts at
6:30. That definitely won't work

I am OK with going to the Baton. I have never been there before.

Never heard of the band, but Elana likes them too. Some other time
maybe!

I think popular sentiment is taking us to the easy alternative of the
Second Story Bar now that it has been discovered.
