Forgive me for interrupting the regularly scheduled program ladies, but
while you are all getting ready for a nice little "garden party" our
collective house is on FIRE! In case you haven' heard, trans-people's
chance at the right to equal employment is about to go down the tubes.

That means YOU! I am going to make a bold suggestion here: instead of
spending ALL your disposable money on a few days of drinking and dining
here in my fair city, how about kicking a few dollars towards one of the
trans-rights organizations that make it possible for events like
Pinkfest to exist. Just a thought. >>> Cyndi

[ Moderator's note: Let's please keep the conversatation in this list
on topic, particularly this close to the event.

I know that several of who attend Pinkfest, myself included, are
active in supporting, both in kind and with $$$, the organizations
that seek to make life better for those of us in the GLBT community.

We have a social life too, and that's what Pinkfest is all about.

Thanks for your understanding. ]

I have a better idea. :)

Why don't you come to Pinkfest and take up a collection on behalf
of any recognized local or national GLBT advocacy group?

I'll even put my money where my mouth is. I'll pledge $50.00 to
any recognized local or national trans-rights or GLBT advocacy
group if you, Cyndi, will take the collection in person during
Pinkfest.

I'm sure others will do so as well.

I'll be at all Pinkfest evening activities except for Sunday.

It is with great appreciation and relief that I received your response
to my first communique to Pinkfest '07. I feared that some folks might
have thought me a "wet blanket" for interjecting a note of grim reality
into your midst. I absolutely respect the right of everyone to spend
their hard-earned money as they see fit, but I honestly felt that with
disaster on ALL of our collective doorstep, to not alert your
participants to the "coming storm" and ask for help would have been a
gross disservice to everyone concerned. We are ALL swept up, are we not,
by the large events and forces of our times?

Since I returned from SCC, where I assisted in the production of the
event, our community has suffered certain significant losses and
indignities, which, despite the strong impulse of my nature towards
simplicity, prompt me to take a different approach. Your generous offer
of support in this crucial time is a giant step towards long-term
friendship and understanding. To that point, the obvious merits
utterance.

Unfortunately , I am compelled by a plethora of responsibilities during
this coming week, and while the current circumstances, on many levels,
make my ability to fully participate uncertain, I will do my level best
to make an appearance in order to meet and thank all of you in person.
In the event that I don't get to more than one event, I have contacted
both Rachel and Janna. They have agreed to accept tax-deductible
donations on behalf of Illinos Gender Advocates, which is a registered
501(c)3 organization on which I serve as vice-chair. Once again, many
thanks. >>> Cyndi
