If we are in Rogers Park for R Public House on Thursday, the Raven
Theatre is in the neighborhood. The play 1984 will be playing there
during Pinkfest.

Based on the novel by George Orwell, 1984 is a terrifying and
breathtaking view of a world controlled by a totalitarian government.
Orwell asks what is left when freedom of speech, the press, love, and
even the past are subject to authoritarian whims? Big Brother is
watching. A theatrical event that is both powerful and disturbingly
provocative.

I am interested in seeing this movie: "Battle of the Sexes"... It will
be in theaters the weekend before Pinkfest. I will probably go to the
Lake Theater in Oak Park after the lunch on Wednesday if it is playing
there then.

I concur on both the movie "Battle of the Sexes" and the play "1984". Let's get them on the schedule.

If it hasn't already been seen by everyone, I enjoyed "Fun Home" when it was in St Louis.

It's been a few years since we visited Tommy Gun's Garage. I present that as an acceptable option, not a particularly strong desire.

What are group opinions about "Late Night Catechism". Any good? Something to avoid?

Comedy clubs?

Amanda suggested some stuff up north. I'll try to dig up those posts and bring them back into the light to see if they have any life.

Have we heard from Stephanie about the schedules for the theater groups with which she's affiliated?

For some reason (can't really remember) I missed it when the Pinkfest gang went a few years back. I would go if the gang wanted to go, but it's not a must-do.

I saw this several years ago at that smaller theater (can't think of the name right off hand) across the street from the Steppenwolf. It wasn't memorably bad, but it wasn't a smash hit. I'm not Catholic, so I figured I just didn't "get it" as much as those who were did.

I'm usually up for these. I know I skipped it last year. It was the last night and I just wanted to have a few drinks and crash.

Raven is also previewing Choir Boy the week of Pinkfest:

Announcing our 2017-2018 Season! | Raven Theatre

Tarell Alvin McCraney's CHOIR BOY to Open Raven Theatre Company's
2017-18 Season; Lineup Announced!

Perhaps Thursday evening or Sunday matinee would work for a Raven outing?

I would love to host. Any evening Thursday through Saturday and Sunday
matinee.

I don't want to capture too much of the groups time.

Evening, I could do cocktails at my place. Wine and cheese, bring a wine
to pass. I have several places we could do dinner after especially
Friday and Saturday.

Sunday matinee there are several places local for brunch early afternoon
and obviously dinner after is no problem, weather permitting seating my
be alfresco.

I will be in P- town, MA, the previous week attending 6 Tennessee
Williams plays in two days. My daughter in law is a masochist. I will be
back Tuesday the 26 during the day.

Let me know you thoughts.

Is Fun Home playing in Chicago that week?

Late Night Catechism tends to play well to Catholics of a Baby Boomer
age, as it taps into their experiences and satires stereotypes. It's
sort of an interactive show, with the nun/teacher teasing
audience/students. We might make for interesting improvisational fodder,
if you're up for it.

Though it has always intrigued me, I've never been to Tommy Guns, mostly
because there are better theatrical options in town at a better price
point. Not that it isn't entertaining and fun for some.

As for comedy clubs, we tend to choose improv. But I might be for
changing it up a bit a choosing stand-up, instead. Zanies (either in
Chicago at their smaller, historic club near Second City or at their
newer/larger showroom in Rosemont) and Laugh Factory at Belmont&Broadway
are options. If we wanted to do improv, iO does have some interesting
shows.

Looking at the schedule, we have Rogers Park tentatively penciled in for Thursday. Maybe an afternoon get-together at your place would work?

Also Sunday, early afternoon? Combined with a nearby brunch, maybe?

Appellation in Andersonville has a Sunday brunch, that has an additional
attraction of a jazz duo (vocalist and guitar) which plays from 11:30-2.

The singer is a friend of the LGBTQ community.

I would be up for Tommy Guns again or for a comedy club.
