VERY preliminary schedule - Feedback requested please ...

Postby annie » Thu Jul 23, 2015 5:00 pm

Here is the first draft of the Pinkfest 2015 schedule.

Everything on here can be considered "in pencil" as of this time, and your feedback is requested.

We've tried to break out the days according to geographic areas, concentrating on Oak Park for Wednesday, Rogers Park for Thursday, downtown for Friday, Lakeview for Saturday, and the Navy Pier area for Sunday.

Suggestions for additions will be appreciated.

Comments, please. :)

VERY preliminary schedule - Feedback requested please ...

Hi All,

I've been pretty busy for the last few weeks and have neglected Pinkfest
Chicago planning and need to get more involved. I am pretty flexible and
like every thing on the schedule.

I'm curious what is happening on the Navy Pier on Sunday afternoon? I
thought everything was closed this time of year.

In the past I have enjoyed the boat excursion on the Chicago River and
harbor and the symphony. Unfortunately, there are no symphony matinees
this year except for the visiting Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra on Sunday
Oct 18 at 3:00 PM. It is described as accentuating the beauty of ancient
Chinese instruments amidst the grandeur of a Western symphony, Tickets
range from $88 to $28 pp. I am not overly enthusiastic about this
performance. The evening performances are major conflicts or social
events already planned and I am not suggesting we substitute any of them
for the scheduled things.

The Lyric Opera has The Marriage of Figaro on Sunday at 2 pm. with
tickets from $200 to $20, but I am not that enthusiastic for this
performance either or the other offerings which conflict with scheduled
activities anyway.

I'm trying to come up with something cultural or touristy like the boat
tour, and I'd go back again, for Saturday afternoon to suggest and if
anyone has ideas please suggest them.

Ginger

The three big potentials for Navy Pier are the boat tours, the IMAX
theater, and the Shakespeare Theater in addition to the museums, shops
and restaurants. The architectural boat tours run through October and
are generally under $35 per person.

The Chicago Shakespeare Theatre has two plays on October 18, Sunday
afternoon at Navy Pier. There is a 2:00 pm play - Ride the Cyclone which
is a musical comedy. The Tempest also has a 2:00 pm show in the other
theatre. The schedule of movies for the IMAX are not available yet.

Does anyone know if Hamburger Mary's is actually going to be open by October?

It looks like we still need Thursday and Saturday afternoon activities. Any thoughts from the locals? I'm going to do a little cyber snooping this week to see what comes up.

I've been interested in ComedySportz for the last couple of years. Anyone interested in the 10pm Show on Saturday evening? This is their regular show, not their 18+ show.

Annie, do you want us to continue posting suggestions in this thread and you'll break them out as you see fit?

Any chance of moving the Friday lunch at the Walnut Room to 11 am? I ask because of the penchant for Chicago museums to close at 4pm. We have the Adler Planetarium after lunch and I'd suggest we get there as soon as possible if we want to review exhibits and catch one of the shoes. I am excited to visit the Planetarium and would like to spend as much time there as possible. Does that interest others?

We learned last year how rushed we can be hitting a Chicago museum late in the day. After our visit the Science and Industry museum we talked about doing an all-day event for one of the museums, including lunch at one of the on-site eateries. Anyone interested in that? Not sure what day, if any, such a schedule would be best for... and maybe not this year.

I'm personally fine with that.

Comments?

I'm fine with this. I definitely want to do the Planetarium this year, as it's been some time since I've seen it.

My only concern is my personal limits. I don't want to burn myself out. As I get older (which I am in denial of) I find that if I have a very intense day without a power nap I tend to turn into a space cadet and want to crash early at night, and miss the QST which I do enjoy. :)

The Adler does close at 4 pm.
The cafe is open 10am until 2:30pm.
I would like to go to one of the sky theater shows which look like they
are shown tw= ice in the afternoon, each about one hour.
