Room rates and new fees

Travelaxe worked for me and I haven't seen any problems that I can trace
to that program. I do have problems with the things my family loads on
the computer, but that's another story.

One thing I did note on my last trip (Palace Station) was additional
user fees that show up on your room bill. We got a very good rate at a
hotel, but they added an additional $4.95 a day for "covered parking,
use of the pool and spa, local phone calls and other associated special
resources" at the hotel.

Check it out when you make your reservations, there may be a slightly
better deal someplace where they don't add these fees. Or is this the
common thing in L.V. these days? I've only run into it recently, but I
imagine it is going to be pretty common before long. I can see it now,
Room rate of $4.95 a nite, but user fees of $165.00 per day.

This is the first time I've ever run into anything other than totally
free (yes, yes, I know, it's buried in the room rate) parking for guests
in any Las Vegas hotel.

Many (most?) LV hotels have some kind of an "energy surcharge" nuisance
fee, which is applied or increased when energy costs increase, but is
seldom reduced or eliminated when energy costs decrease. Yes, for a room
rate of $30-ish, it can be an effective 10% increase.

Phone fees are always a profit center for hotels. Most charge per local
call and gouge for long distance. A few of them have a flat daily fee
for unmeasured local calling (Stardust) and gouge for long distance.

IMAO, the worst gouging trend in hotels is the mini bar, especially when
(like one Hilton I remember) they remove all vending machines from the
property and remove soda and snacks from the gift shop. For the coffee
drinkers, they have the coffee maker in the room, but $ell the coffee in
the mini bar. The big gouge, however, is a $5-ish mini bar restocking
fee. Yes, I've seen this!

What I'll try to do is research the nuisance fees for the suggested
hotels and post them in the comparison chart on the hotel page:

We haven't had that problem, but we reserve our room on the hotel's web
site, book it with the credit card, and then tell them at the desk to
close it (don't leave it open for room service, calls, etc.)
