Briefly, I've fought the fem feelings all my life. By the time I was 13
my mother's clothes were too small. I did boy things but would have
rather done girl things. All the while, even when married, I always had
secret longings to be a woman. I've always been rather disgusted when
men start talking about women and and bragging about their conquests and
demeaning women in genera.. In the 1970s, on two occasions, I
encountered part time transgender girls who impressed me and spent an
evening with each talking and dancing. I really wanted to be them, but
had no idea or the guts to do anything about it. Through all the years
the fellings have simmered just below the surface. Now I'm nearing 70
and realizing more and more that I missed something important. I'm
really not sure about where or how far I want to go, but I do want to
give myself a chance. Because I live in a small, conservtive town, I
can't really do much at home. Then I discovered the DLVEGAS gathering
and have thought that here is my chance to do something. I would like to
attend the event in April 2011. For me attending would be a real
learning experience. Would someone like me fit in at the event? I think
it is very important to mix with transgender ladies to find myself. I
live about three hours from Salt Lake City but haven't been able to find
out where to go to meet transgender ladies, and I am rather leary about
the prostitution seen.

I need advice and would like to make some contacts that could give
guidance. Thank you for reading this message.

Farrosong,

I can offer just a little in answer to your questions. My first times
out were at DLV and everyone has always been very supportive. Probably
because most of us have been in the same situation, wanting to take
those first steps out and finding someone who makes it easier. DLV has
that kind of support if you want to become involved and ask for the
assistance of a big sister or go to a beginners get-together.

Secondly, if you want to visit with us in Salt Lake City there are
several options available and I can tell about two of them. We have a
newly charterd chapter of Tri-Ess that meets the second Friday of the
month at the Utah Pride Center from 6-9 PM. You can contact me for more
details at SarahC01@hotmail.com if you wish. Additionally there is a
more diverse group called Engendered Species that meets the second
Saturday at a private home in Salt Lake. Both groups will be supportive
and will have places for you to change if you wish.

No need to feel like you are alone in this.

Hope to see you in Las Vegas in April 2012, not 2011. That was last
year. In answer to your question, yes most definitely you would fit. We
have gals of all ages attending DLV. You would fit in. All you need is
the desire to experience this and be part of the group. You can learn
about makeup and dress at DLV. You can network, and share and learn. it
is a learning experience, all while having fun. You just have to be
willing to do it and hold your head up high. Not be embarrassed or
ashamed. Good luck and hope to see you in LV next year.

Farrosong,

Last year was my first time and first time out in a general
population. I'm also your age. Had a truly great time, so I
suggest you attend. I'll be there again and can't wait.

Farrisong,

You are not alone. Your history has much that is common with the history
amongst many of us that attend. I'm amazed how long you were able to
suppressed your inner feelings. I started younger than you and wasn't
able to hold back long as you have. Many of us who also started later in
life also wish we could have started when we were much younger.

Living in a conservative small town makes it even harder when everyone
knows you. LV is a city that is big and easy to hide yourself where no
one will know who you are.

Yes Farrisong, the old saying "What Happens In Las Vegas, Stays In Las
Vegas" applies beautifully to all of us!
