While in the past there have been dates that have not been very
convenient, the current situation regarding my being able to attend has
nothing to do with March, April or May dates. It is simply money! I work
as a contractor in the IT & Teleco industries and the work here has
dried up as a result of a "perfect storm" of events (GFC, Telecom
separation, Government FTTH initiatives, Bad NZ economy, earthquakes).
Its meant that work for contractors is hard to get, too many people
trying for the same roles, and at not very good rates.
If I had the money / resources and given no other conflict I would come
irrespective of the dates / week.
My issues with current date selection is not whether they are good or
bad, only that a date that may turn out to be problematic remains as an
option and then we find out it really is bad and have to change it.
As to Katies idea of switching between months, I think that probably has
happened over the history of DLV anyway. Its certainly moved around in
April and and has had a couple of May dates (albeit at the end of DLV).
We are ruled by the dates set by events MUCH bigger than us and so we
have to take what is available.
Thanks so much for think about me though, I do appreciate it.
Hugs
Michelle
