Only 30 days left, gang!

APRIL FOOL:
No, DLV 2001 is not cancelled.
However, I do have some prime farm land for sale in Florida. Needs no
irrigation! :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Misc items:
Sorry about the length of this. We may have to go to an as-needed mailing
schedule soon if this much material keeps coming in.
We're now one month away. If you haven't done so already, you should have
your air and hotel reservations in. The bargain air fares disappear at
the 21 day and 14 day points. Hotels are filling up (see related item
below).
Yes, you will be able to attend and make arrangements at the last
minute, but your options will be fewer and prices will be higher.
Golfers: If you didn't get the word, a separate mailing list, called
DLVGOLF has been created. It's an open, unmoderated list. To subscribe,
just reply to this message and say to add you to the golf list.
Roommates: We currently have listings for rooms wanted and rooms
offered. Please consider contacting the others listed below and make
arrangements.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Registration:
In early April we'll be sending out the final registration confirmation
to everybody who has registered. This will allow you to see what we
have on record for you, and to make any updates or corrections.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS YEAR YOU MUST REGISTER TO RECEIVE THE FINAL MAILINGS
SUCH AS DETAILED SCHEDULE, DIRECTIONS, CONTACT PHONE NUMBERS, ETC.
Registration screen: http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/register.html
Update screen: http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/update.html
Special note to regulars, volunteers, and Las Vegas Locals: Please
register. Nobody is assumed to be on the list. There are still a few
very conspicuous missing people. :)

T-shirts .. last call:
I've recently sent a confirmation e-mail to those who are signed up for
the DLV 1999 and the DLV 2000 commemorative t-shirts. If you did not get
this e-mail and you signed up for a shirt, let me know (hit reply).
Also, if you want one (or both) and you attended the particular year,
please let me know (hit reply).
If you attended DLV 1999 and either returned in 2000 or will attend
this year, you are eligible for one of the DLV 1999 shirts. Please
"reconfirm" your shirt size in both your adult t-shirt size and regular
dress size (I use two suppliers) and your shirt will be ready for you
at DLV.
If you attended DLV 2000 and will be returning for DLV 2001, you are
eligible for one of the newer shirts. The color scheme is similar to
what's on the file http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2001/dlv2001c.gif
except the background (shirt body) is more pink instead of the violet
shown in the image. This will have a slightly larger DLV logo very
similar to the image file. If you attended last year and will be
returning this year, and would like one of these, please reply with
your adult t-shirt size and your regular dress size (I use two
suppliers who size differently) and it will be waiting for you
in May.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Getting out:
>>>I really do want to attend. Maybe by registering like this it will be
>>>the driving force I need to get off my bottom and do what I've been
>>>working toward for years.
>>Well, we certainly hope you can make it. We've had many who are new to
>>going out and with almost no exceptions, all have really opened up and
[snip]
>>>The other special need is to get out with the girls just once.
[munch]
>Let me add to this. This year is my third Diva. First time I was
>a total wreck, I was shaking like a leaf and scared silly. This was
>my first time really out except for a couple of group meetins. I almost
>backed out so many times, but I'm glad I didn't. Within five minutes
>of meeting the other girls, they made me feel right at home and oh
>so at ease. Gave me the confidence to do it again and even go out
>at home once.
I agree that the DLV people are a super group. Even though you may not
know anybody before the big event, you will be among friends. DLV people
are super people, period!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Shipping and receiving:
>My two cents worth:) Shipping extra items via UPS, Fed Ex or USPS is
>pretty easy. I would call the hotel to alert them that the package(s)
>is coming. And, even follow up with a FAX.
>Second penny idea--- Although sending to the hotel is very safe maybe
>one of the DLV girls who lives in Vegas would volunteer to have packages
>sent to her house to hold until the owner arrives.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Said in passing:
>>>> >... Candidly, most of us DLV girls don't pass all that well, and
[clip]
>>>the rest of this paragraph. I have been in T groups where bystanders
>>>felt that some of us were "real women" and some weren't. In fact,
[snip]
>From my standpoint, and I'm being blunt, so no offense, please, the
>Diva girls either passed or they didn't. Those who pass passed at
>night and in the day. Those were the ones who were smaller and had
>lots of experience, or already had the surgery, you could tell.
>Now I know I'll never pass, even though I want to learn to. I'm just
>too big.
No such thing as too big. As an example, we had a lady at DLV 1999 who I
considered to be passable to the point of being undetectable, and she
was far from skinny. She was probably one of the heavier people we had,
but she always dressed appropriate to the occasion, whether it was
casual or dressy.
On the Strip tour, I remember her on line for the roller coaster at
NYNY. She was surrounded by the crowd and boocoo kids. (Kids, you know,
those little people who can read any t* person like a book.) She was
getting absolutely no attention at all. She was wearing slacks, fanny
pack, and a kind of glitzy top. She *was* the typical housewife tourist
from Peoria! (If anybody doesn't know who I'm talking about and is
curious, mail me, and I'll point her out in the archive photos.)
She selected outfits which made the best of her body type, and she did
not try to be something she couldn't be. She carried herself well, and
didn't act like there was a TLA agent shadowing her. Her attitude showed
that she had just as much right as anybody else to enjoy the sights and
activities of Las Vegas. That ... is passing!
>I also look like an idiot i
>heels. I'm too tall and too clumsy.
Maybe heels don't work for you, and if they don't, maybe it's good you
realize it. Heels are indeed the stereotypical CD shoe. Some people can
wear them and look very nice, others can't fit into that look. As for
clumsiness, it takes some time to develop the attitude and poise that
makes a natural presentation. That will come with experience.
... and ...
>OK, here is my third penny thought. You are going to get a thousand
>comments about dressing and passing.
No, only a few hundred. :) :)
>Wear whatever makes you happy at
>night. However in the daytime please avoid inappropriate dress. You
>will be with other girls and it may be embarrassing to some of them who
>are dressed casually and hoping to attract as little attention as
>possible.
... and ...
>The whole point you all are missing is that while some of you people
>want to dress to pass, others of you want to dress to thrill and don't
>care if they pass. Some of you are TS's and you need to pass, still
>others want to pass if they can, but it's not the end of the world
>if they don't. Remember, it's not necessary to pass to have fun.
One very good point here is that the DLV group is quite varied, covering
all points on the T* spectrum and then some. The needs of one person
may not be the same as those of another. We do, however, have lots in
common.
This is a thread which can continue in real life at DLV. Discussions
such as this are healthy if we keep in mind the goal is to share ideas,
not to convince the others that our opinion is the one true and correct
way to think.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Makeovers:
>Has there been any more word on makeovers, as I am trying to plan
>around it. thanx . take care.
Ronnie, our local Mary Kay rep, will be out of town on vacation over
the DLV period this year.
There are, however, several options for you.
1. Local salon. See the vendor list which will be sent out in a couple
weeks.
2. Las Vegas Fantasy Tours does TG makeovers and has invited the
DLV people to make use of their services.
3. Glamour Shots, Meadows Mall. Yes, you can have a makeover without a
photo shoot (but who wants to skip the photos). :) If you're a bit shy
going to a mall, I or one of the other Big Sisters will escort you.
4. Peer review. Find an hour or so slack time some morning and ask a
few of those who have experience to work with you on your technique
and style. This will allow you to do some experimentation in the
company of those who can give you some immediate feedback. If you're
fairly inexperienced with makeup, this is my strong suggestion.
If you're concerned about looking nice for one of the big evenings, get
one of the volunteer Big Sisters to help you out as you get ready.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Mailbag:
>> >I really do want to attend.
>Then, by all means, do. We'd all love to have you, and I'm
>sure that you will love being there. If my memory serves me correctly,
>which, I guess, is questionable, this will be the fourth one for me, and I
>have always had a good time. My biggest hangup on the first one was that
>the schedule looked a little sparse and I was afraid that there would be
>times when there was nothing to do, but that has never happened. There
>was always someone going to do something, and I could choose to go along
>or take time out at my leisure. It's a great vacation.
Yes, you have a good memory. This year will be your 4th.
(May the 4th be with you!)
>Also, do we need to purchase tickets for Kenny Kerr in advance? I seem
>to recall having to do that one year.
I'll have the particulars in a couple weeks. There may be some 2:1
discounts available. It's maitre'd seating, so there's no hassle of
having to purchase tickets together.

... and how do you know about stains on the wall at Delmar? :)
>> Wednesday: 5:00pm Dinner Milano's
>ANSI, do you have anyone else to pick up Wednesday afternoon? We should
>talk about what would be the best time for {us} to arrive,
>especially if we're coming into Henderson.
I would say just about any time Wednesday is fine. I'll be arriving
Tuesday. I'm sure I can steer other things around your pick-up (and
anybody else who needs one).
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Wig styling:
>Sorry:) Here is my 4th penny thought.
>If any girls want to have a wig styled they should make arrangements at
>least a week earlier than the day they will need that wig. You should
>inform the shop of the day and time you will drop off your wig and when
>you will need to pick it up. I know Vegas Girl Wigs styles wigs for
>T-girls, and maybe some of the local girls know of some salons that
>could be contacted for this service.
Here are three that appear on the collected vendor list. The yellow pages
ad leaves no question that Vegas Girl invites T-business. Several of our
people have shopped at Serge's with good reports.
We will plan to stop by at least one of these on the shopping tour on
Thursday.

Kenny Kerr Show:
>Nice job organizing all this.
Thank you very much. :)
>Several questions, tho, regarding the Kenny Kerr show. First, from
>what I understand, the seating is "open seating," that is, no assigned
>seats at the show?
They tell me (the ubiquitous "they") that yes, this is one of the shows
that still uses maitre'd seating, meaning they assign you seats when
you brib^H^H^H^Htip the showroom staff. As in the past, we'll take up
a voluntary collection for this. We've never had any trouble getting
good seats, all together, at any Kenny Kerr production this way.
>I just need to purchase tickets thru the New Frontier or online?
Yes, thru the Frontier. Within the next couple weeks I'll confirm the
particulars and give the showroom staff a "heads up" that we're gonna
be coming.
There MAY be some discount coupons available, like 2 for 1.
>Also, I noted that there are two shows in the evening. Which show will
>the DLV girls be attending, the 8 p.m. or the 10 p.m.?
We'll be attending the 8:00pm show.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

>accomodates Gina and Denise.
>Nails. Could anyone provide the name and telephone number of a salon so

Hotels:
>Just so you know, Imperial Palace is sold out. I had to reserve Sahara.
Sahara is not bad at all. That's where I and others stayed last year.
It's known to be t-friendly, and it's one of our recommended places as
you know.
Where did you make your reservation? Hotel desk? Website? Agent?
Checking with Travelocity (www.travelocity.com) I'm indeed seeing the
Imperial Palace sold out for May 2-7 and Sahara available for those
dates. However, when I check Travelscape (www.travelscape.com) I see
just the opposite, Sahara sold out and Imperial Palace available.
This is showing us that yes, hotels are filling up, and from this point
on, your first choice may not be available. Don't procrastinate, gang!
Get those reservations in!
Other options of places known to be t-friendly, in case you have a
problem booking at both Imperial Palace and Sahara, or if you just want
someplace else, are Stardust, Tropicana, Riviera, and Palace Station. I
have not checked availability of these places.

Air tours:
>> >I'd suggest that we base our planes at Henderson,

No problem. Just say where and when.

>> this on the schedule as a "solid" item ASAP. We have this tentatively

>> (Gina, Densie) and for those interested in flying?
>It works for me. Figure two hours for each flight if we're going to the
>Grand Canyon, because it takes a little while to get in and out of the

Ok, we'll mark those as solid for both Friday and Sunday.

Mailbag:
>Sounds good, but have a few questions:
>- Are there get-togethers? and what nights do they occure?
Many activities. Something every evening, many during the day. See
the schedule below.
>- How many "gals" have signed up to date?
Latest headcount appears in each mailing. See it a few lines down.
>- Which Hotel is the central location? Is it too late to secure a room there?
No real central location, but we're recommending the Imperial Palace and
the Sahara. Both are known to be t-friendly and reasonable in price.
There are availability notes above in this mailing.
>- Have special arrangements been made with the hotels?
Nope
> or do we just decend
> on them and take our chances?
As long as you pay your bill and behave as a lady or gentleman (or both)
the hotels won't have a problem. Your money is just as green as that of
anybody else. :)
>Would love to start planing if all is OK.
Glad to have you with us.
We're one month out from the big event. Do make your arrangements as
soon as possible. Hotels are filling up and prices are rising.
